I think it was just Red. Guys? This bass has one feature I have never seen before - a black jack plate. All of my other BT Ricks have chrome ones.

I'm trying to think back on that all black fretless I had that I sold to Jared. Jared? is the jackplate black?

That's the first black jack plate I've ever heard of.

I have an '87 4003S BT that has a chrome one.

Does it say "Rick O Sound" and "Standard" in white?!

Yeah if you look in the sweating the details forum I just posted about the bass I just got. Same bass as your but it is blue. The jack plate on mine is black and is unlabled as far as ric-o-sound. Just has the serial number on it. Congrats that is a good deal. My friend has a 2005 4003 and my neck seems to play a little easier and of course the classic Ric sound is there!

Perhaps it an early BT feature that was discontinued? The tuners have silver gears and worms but the keys and base plates are black. The contrast looks pretty cool. I'll post pics later.

My '85 4003 (formerly red with black trim and now BronzeGlo with black trim) has a black jackplate.

Mine is also an '85. Wasn't that the first year of the BT option?

My '86 all-black 4003 has a black jackplate.
