Thanks Brian. Just to clarify for me, is the "scoop shape" the relief angle under the string towards the front of the nut, or is it just the shape of the channel?
I was thinking the same thing for justifying another bass on stage! One in standard tuning, and one in BEAD. If I took the Hipshot key off my MG, I could add another V63 for drop -D tuning! Hmm, maybe a Jetglo this time?

I have no way to measure the "B" string, but if you want, I'll mail it to you after I change out the strings on the bass!
I know what you mean by "up her sleeve". My "payback" is usually a season of holidays with the outlaws, oops, I meant in-laws!

I meant it more in regards to the channel shape....the rounded bottom should cradle a smaller string and the string tension should keep it from rattling or moving around. If the slot widening was done in a sloppy fashion then there might be an issue.

I think one V63 with RW strings, one with flats, and one BEAD is the way to go, Kevin!
Kevin, do you have a full shot of the FG, or one of the headstock you could post? I'm likin' that one.

Nice V63's Kevin. Yes, the FG pix are too fuzzy. I can make out the walnut wings, but I can't tell much else!

Yes, I had Tony make me a new pickguard that better approximates the one that is on that '63 MG 4001 in the Smith book that wraps around the horseshoe surround. The finger rest is also from Tony.

Here's a sad but true story regarding a Jetglo V63. A local music store (Ric Dealer too) closed down in '90. They had a Jetglo '88 V63 new, that nobody wanted so an employee with a shred of common sense got it for a steal. Puts it in the local swap paper for dirt ($475) So I go running up, buy it on the spot, complete with papers, case, cloth. I used it for a few years and sold it locally for $900. This guy proceeds to strip it to Mapleglo. Ahhhhhggghhhh! Well he actually did a great strip and sanding on it. Problem is, in true Macca weekend warrior style, he finishes it with brush-on clear varnish. Well after I got over the initial shock, a few years later, he offers it back to me cheap and I accept. Played it for several more years and ended up trading it in at the BassPalace. Ended up getting a profit, and got to play a great sounding Ric for several years. I wonder where it is now? Can't be too many refin-ed V63s out there! What a shame though.
