Anyone who has heard the first few Beatles recording knows that George sometimes stumbled on guitar. I do think GE bashed poor GH too much. Lennon came in for bashing as well, and Ringo -- who appears to have become the most well-adjusted Beatle -- comes off as having been along for the ride according to GE. Paul comes off best, but GE never bypasses the fact that Paul was borderline obsessive and a perfectionist to the point of being a PITA. GE whines about the Beatles not sharing their food as well. All in all, I think GE just waited too long to write his book. It's like trying to discover new facts about Hitler at this point. I would have loved to have seen more detail about the sessions, but GE was writing to attract the largest possible audience. A couple of revelations, at least to me, but not nearly as entertaining as "The Beatles' Gear."

I see it pretty much the same way, Dave. Originally, I had high hopes for this book, but after reading it, hopes were dashed. Yep, GE should have jotted down all of this about a decade or two back, and it would have been nice to read more details about the songs themselves, who did what, etc. It showed great promise, but IMO, fell a little short. Nonetheless, it's still probably worth the read. I guess I can wait (and, hopefully, survive) two more years for Lewisohn's first installment in his three volume set. Which, as I undertand, the last volume won't be published until 2016. By that time my memory may be very much like Emerick's, if I have one at all.

Beatles Gear is a great book. A good read all the way through and for reference. I hadn't heard of Lewisohn's three volume set. That sounds like fun, but 2016. He must be writing it with the creator of the Soprano's
