"So those of us who love the minty green, just need to wait a few years to buy a nice blueboy turning a different shade of pale..."

But probably not a whiter shade of pale . . .

My 79 mapleglo 4001 has yellowed and looks great, better than the new ones. everyone always likes that one, it sounds great too.
I would love to see that mint green be a COY though, those pastels look much better in person.

OK.....

My comment was not to labour a point on the colour change (and it's nothing to do with my other Ric! - I let that drop a while ago and have gone radio-silent on the matter!), I just like my BB very much the exact colour it is and would be a little upset if it changed colour. If it does change, I'll live with it.

I imagine I've been quite lucky for it not to have degraded at all after 4 years!

I may be wrong on this, but isn't there non-yellowing CV available? I thought RIC couldn't use it because of CA emissions standards. Perhaps Paul or Dale will begin doing "Back in Blue" refinishes for those who don't like the mint green.

I guarantee you that it HAS changed color; it's just so gradual that you haven't noticed it and you don't have a point of reference. Use it in the sun or fluorescent lights and it will change even faster.

I can't think of any guitar maker who has made an ageless finish yet. 'The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older' as the lyric goes...

Well John, I have to say that any change so far is completely imperceptible (my big word for the week), so I'm really happy!

[Makes a change!]

Does anyone have a 4003 BB that has turned mint yet?
Any pictures?

My BB arrived today.... My first ever Rickenbacker.

When I ordered the bass over the phone from a store in CA, I asked if it was blue or mint, and the guy said it was blue, but with a hint of green (barely perceptible) on the edges. Well, upon excitedly opening the case I found that I have a full blown Mint Boy. At first I was quite disappointed , but within about an hour I was actually very happy with the color. There are still some places where there is a HINT of blue, and there are places where the clear coat is darker making it appear to be an old instrument although I was told this bass was in it's case for the past year.
I love the sound of the bass, and LOVE the mute feature. I'm not here to rag on Rickenbacker, but I have to say it is a bit disappointing that this new bass (I won't bring up how much I paid) didn't even make it to it's first owner without changing color.
