Bob, I used to live in CT and I agree about the strat country thing. Whereabouts in Trumbull are you?

I saw three bands at CBGBs last time I was there and there were some Rics played by some of them (at least one 620/12. I forget the rest.)

I just walked in and two of the bands were pretty good. Rics might be scarce in clubs elsewhere but I guess good bands in well known clubs still have good taste.

"Guitars are strange though. They don't like not being played"

I think that you are absolutely right Bob. In my experience, gtrs that don't get played regularly lose their tuning easily (even with new stretched strings) & don't play as well as those that are used. I think that collectors are very important to the gtr world, but personaly I get very uptight about gtrs that I don't use, no matter how good they are. I guess that at the moment, I can't quite make that transition from player to collector. As a pro player, I can use about 6 gtrs...any more & I struggle to justify them!

I wouldn't argue with your percentage John, you're probably spot on.

I have 3 4003's and they all get played regularly.
Guitars that live in cases may as well not exist.

Four of my guitars have been used at gigs (Gretsch 6120, Ovation Elite, L.P. Special, and my Rick 360-12), but since the late 80s the other 15 are all stage virgins.

Unless you count my current "bedroom rock star in his 50s" phase.

I've gigged every bass I own, and I own 5. My 4003 is my regular player along with my Jazz. I've gigged with the 4001, the Yamaha BX-5 and the Martin B-1 less often but they have all been on stage with me at least once.

Is anyone here or does anyone know collectors who don't play at all? This kind of collecting appears to be taking place with high end saxophones.....
