Yeah, actually I heard that the next act after the Freaking Brothers was the guy who played the Warsaw Concerto with his nose, but he cancelled for some reason.

"I hear Freddie Mercury, under an assumed name, covered a Beach Boys tune. Anyone heard it? Supposedly very good".

Wasn't it 'I Can Hear Music' put out under the name 'Larry Lurex'?

Oh, then Technically, it's not a Beach Boys' song but a Beach Boys' cover being covered!

A few great cover tunes I would vote for include:

Beatles - Words of Love (mentioned by several others)

Greg Kihn Band - For You (Springsteen) and RoadRunner

Tom Petty & Heartbreakers - So You Want to Be a Rock & Roll Star (from the Pack Up the Plantation live album and the TPHB Anthology) as well as Feel a Whole Lot Better from Full Moon Fever (latter mentioned also on this thread by others).

Roger McGuinn - American Girl (ThunderByrd) and If I Needed Someone (Limited Edition)

Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Performance Recording - My Back Pages by the ensemble inlcuding Roger McGuinn, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, G.E. Smith et. al. Does this count as a cover since Mcguinn and Dylan were part of the tribute ensemble ?

Les Fradkin -- two nice versions of If I Needed Someone, one with vocal and one an instrumental

One more to mention ---- Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers do a nice rendition of "Handle With Care" and since none of the other Wilburys are Travelin' much nowadays, this is the only cover out there by an original member of the Wilburys. You can see versions of it on the Tom Petty Soundstage DVD and also on the Concert for George DVD.

Nick Lowe doing the Johnny Rivers classic the Poor Side of Town, or Elvis Costello doing the Nick Lowe classic What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding.

Here's a very unusual version of She Loves You which seems to add depth to the lyric. Don't listen if you feel down though.
