Ed's 4005 arrived. After all these years of wanting one! Pretty damn cool bass. I would like to pull the .0047 cap right away though (sorry to the purists out there). Can anyone point me to a set of instructions? I know it is simple but I'd like some guidance.
I'll post some pics tomorrow. I'll use it at a gig tomorrow too if I get that cap out.

Tim...here's a link ....I think you'll really like the cap mod...you can pull the cap or just bypass it...my 4005 really came alive for me after I did the mod....HUGE difference... as it went from plink-plunk to BOOM-UMPH!! Just my opinion through my tattered eardrums.

would it be possible to replace one of the tone knobs & to use a push-pull knob to by-pass the cap at will ?

I got to play a satin finish, maple fingerboard, quilt maple top 4004Cii at the museum gig in Carlsbad last night, Jared.

Had a casual, party gig last night so I broke out the new 4005 for the first time. Nice bass! A bit heavy, but not unbearable. Lovely warm, full tone. I mainly used the neck pickup but found adding the bridge pickup brought in a whole new tone. I am very pleased. Here's a couple of snapshots.

Looks great Tim! It is nice to see someone else with a Walter Woods amp. Are those EA cabs under it?

Sharp eye, Jeffrey. They are EA VL-110s. Love those cabs. Cover 90% of my work. I did recently try some Phil Jones cabs that I wanted to buy for the few shows where I need to move more air, but the seller decided not to sell them. I got a Bergantino HT-322 instead, which should arrive tomorrow. I suspect I will not be using it too often though as the EAs make for such a great rig.

Like many instruments, it must vary from piece to piece. Mine is quite a bit heavier than either my 4003 or 4004. With the bass in it the case weighs 35 lbs!

Yeah, the case and guitar weigh a ton. I don't pick up my basses very often, so my opinion of the weight should be ignored. It is heavier than my Hofner, I can say with absolute authority!
Actually, at the confluence, I picked up Gary's 4005RM and thought it felt heavier than mine.

I just weighed my 4005 (in its silver Rickenbacker case) and the total weight is exactly 24lbs.

The case alone for Tim's 4005 is pretty heavy. Not sure what kind of wood it's made from. Anyone know what kind they used back in '82?
