True. I suppose if the buyer was willing to pay someone to pack it up as well I might do that. Heck I wouldn't know where to start packing up an SVT head and 8x10 cabinet. I'd much prefer to wave bye-bye to my amp as it left home in the back of someone's pick-up though.

Looks like a 3000 or 3001 someone routed out for a second pickup, it sounds like the original pickup comes with it. They also moved one of the controls, added a fourth and cut in a control cover on the back. It may not be a bad project to take on for someone with the time and know how.

It's a 2030. No visible mods other than the finish.

The latest bidder retracted. Last night at about 12pm I sent in a letter about the bass to misleading descriptions. A pop up said that it was already under investigation (as I already knew) and is usually resolved in 24 to 36 hours, this was at least 48 hrs. after the original one went in, it is now going on three days. I sent mine in anyway, the more they get (maybe) the more willing they will be to do something about this. This really inspires confidence in me about Ebays willingness and desire to keep their web site honest, and investigate members complaints.

I emailed the high bidder who then retracted. He sent me a nice message of thanks - the subject line was, "I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends"!

I don't know why this seller doesn't just correct his listing. If his reserve is only $800, that's a fair price for a used '88 bass. Can you imagine what a real '68 Rickenbacker bass in custom color gold would bring? Probably $8000!

Yeah I e-mailed him also and directed him to this forum. And yes I think many ric players are probably steering clear of this bass, it's worth the $800.00 but who wants to deal with someone who lists it as a 68 when all you have to do is check the numbers to find out it is an 88. These people that retracted may not have if they had known it was an 88 to begin with.

The ad at eBay that prompted this thread is STILL listed as I type this. True to form, the eBay administrative greed-mongers apparently see no reason to yank, or even correct, the ad. They've had more than enough time by any reasonable standard to take appropriate action against the seller's misrepresentation. It's infuriating to see this, but I'm not surprised in the least.

A tip of the cap and a bow of thanks to those here in the forum who went out of their way to do the right thing. Perhaps a measure of gratification will come about if the seller is unsuccessful.

This isn't strictly true. I've seen many ads that state that the item must be picked up, and shipping is not an option. In fact, I just saw one in Laboratory Equipment:

Here is what the seller states:

"Shipping
The buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for all aspects of shipping, please do not email us for shipping quotes. The item can be picked up from our San Francisco warehouse with loading dock (zip code 94107). The item(s) can be bubble wrapped and shrink wrapped at no additional charge to the buyer."

Based on the seller's statement, I conclude that one can pick the item up in person, or call a shipping service, such as Forward Air, that will go to a location, crate the item, then ship it, for a cost (a fairly steep one!), but it's obvious that the seller wants as little to do as possible with shipping the item.

Hi Gary, I didn't mean that he had to do that, it's just a popular option. It's entirely up to the seller, it gives people more options. I just bought a 85lb. radio that was shipped about 1500 miles and was too fragile to go UPS, they put it on a separate pallet and airmailed it and it was only $120.00

I sold a car on ebay and said "You (buyer) come pick it up". Period. I've never shipped a guitar, but would rather not go through the fuss of shipping.

Bob (Bobampeg), that's what I thought you meant, I just wanted to make things "perfectly clear" for Robert (Robj). Truck freight is a lot cheaper than UPS for heavy or bulky items; I bought a Fender Dual Showman Reverb (head and cabinet) and it shipped from Wyoming to southern California for only $65.

Jerry, I know what you mean about the fuss of shipping. I sold an old vacuum pump on eBay and had to build a wooden crate for it due to its weight... I certainly spent more time on it than I should have - but it did arrive safe and sound! I guess my having worked in shipping/receiving a couple of times in my life makes such tasks seem less daunting to me.

Well it's finally over, it didn't meet the reserve, must be high for a real 68, especially a special order silver 4003. The only 4003 made until 1980, a prototype that slipped out of ric's hands? Silver? wow! rare! With Ebays seal of approval too.
