Looks like someone added a couple of screws to the tailpiece on that 4003S. They never came that way from the factory did they? Nice bass.

I think that a 4003 from that era would have the 2 extra screws installed from the factory ...

It's got the split guard, so the extra screws are quite likely factory.
It'd make a nice 5 string!

I'm not gonna get that 4003s...their isn't really anything I like about it other than the fact that it's a rick. how much are these things worth usually? I'm seriously considering getting Jim Glen's bass but there's only one potential problem...the finish is "UnionJackglo"(custom refin...the whole bass is bassicaly one big british flag) and I think I might look like a total idiot on stage with it cause I'm gonna be playing in an old school thrash metal band(think old school Metallica and Megadeth). I have one more lead on a rick to persue and if it doesn't pan out I'm gonna get the Union Jack I think.

Dude- if you're going to do metal with a rick it's got to be jetglo, they are very common you just have to have a little patience. You also have to get a wallet w/chain and large wrist band(for the binding crease)

matthew - being a fellow canadian, i've found that if nothing in the local market works for you, search through classified listings in the states. i'm sure you will turn up at least one 4003, for around 850-900US in excellent condition. i've brought in 5 rics, including 3 vintage, and with duty and shipping, the most i have paid was 1250CAN.

Those have been some pretty good deals! Patience does pay off in the end.

their should be a 1975 4001 from Canada showing up on ebay pretty soon...it's the same seller that was selling that '73 and in his item description he mentionned that he would also be selling a 1975 so I asked about it and he said he would list it soon. He says it's in a wine red (burgandyglo?) finish. If I don't get that one then I'm gonna go with Jim Glenn's 4001.

If you've been in contact with the seller, maybe you should make him an offer, or ask what he'd take for a straight sale.
Or if he won't sell it outright, hit the BIN if he posts one on the auction .
I know, that's pretty obvious, but I think a Burg would go fairly high if it gets to run it's course. It's worth a try anyway.
Sounds ideal: 1975 Burg. It might even have the dual neck pickup rout so you could put a 1/2" spaced pickguard on it for that vintage look.
Good luck, Matt!

That jetglo 4001 is perfect for metal, or get a black Laredo and add a fifth string, even better.

hmm that is looking pretty good...I'm just scared about getting slapped with border fees...I was gonna get Jim Glen's bass cause I was getting a great deal on it and he would declare it a birthday gift for customs so I wouldn't have to pay fees. I also need an amp to go with my new bass cause I only have a 15w practice amp and that wouldn't do me any good in a band situation. I have roughly 1500$ canadian to get both bass and amp...hmm a student loan is looking pretty handy right now.
Mark-don't make me vomit...I despise 5 strings, but I do agree that a jetglo would be alot better than a bass painted Union Jack style for use in a metal band.
