Yep, the black does look nice against Fireglo. That 4001 FG wound up as Ted's first ebay purchase (I was the seller). I don't know what he did with it, but it did have a repaired neck.

OK John, if you insist.
$700.00 CDN which roughly equals $611.00 USD.
Not a bad eh?

I certainly did get a bargain. Once again.
Obviously it pays (at least for me it does)to visit the local pawn shops on a regular basis and to know what you are looking for. I have scored a number of fine instruments at a fraction of their market value doing just that.
Now some may say why do you need all those fine instruments?

Great find, Brian! We have only one pawn shop, they have junk and no quality instruments, and they ebay so know pricing.... I found a beat Fender Bassman (2x15") cab I will offer a lot less on - I am prepared to walk if he says no because it needs a lot of tlc.

I love pawn shops. I found my 1979 MapleGlo 4001 (there's a picture in the differences between 4001s and 4003s thread) in a pawn shop. Original case and all for $180 US Dollars!!! That same pawn shop sold me a 1964 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tenessean for $200! They had a Peavey T-60 hanging next to the Gretsch on sale for $800!!! Believe it or not....

Pawn shops are pretty lousy here - as far as musical instruments are concerned. Seems the proprietors know decent stuff when they see it. Most of it ends up on ebay......

That is the fact for most of them all over the US, in the last 3 years. Of course our forum also may have contributed a little bit to that development!?

Let me see, in recent times I have scored the following instruments from pawn shops either for myself or for friends or family.
1971 Fender USA Stratocaster $100
1976 Ibanez Iceman $175
1999 Epiphone 100 Les Paul $200.00
1986 Fender Stratocaster MIJ $300
1986 Fender Stratocaster MIJ $400
Just to name a few...

Knowledge has killed the pawn shop deal.about ten years ago i scored a 71 Jazz bass for 300.00. Since then no such luck.
