Now that I think of it, the RIC display at the MOMM had one in a display case.

Yeah, now I remember standing there with you and speculating on that 1996 date for production. Well, maybe when that backlog is caught up.....
If anyone wants a full size pic (slightly blurry - glass case confused autofocus) email me.

I believe one of the 4005's in the RIC museum also had a 1996 build date. Most likely leftover parts that were put to good use.

A closeup of the headstock on that 4005/8 will reveal it to be a unique variation on the potato head design.

4008 UPDATE!
I lent my Fireglo 4008 to Gareth - he wants to use it on an upcoming recording session. I took it over yesterday and snapped a pic while he was playing it:
It sounded really amazing through the Trace Elliot rig in the pic (actually, you can only see half of it!) - it sounded almost like there was a suboctave effect, but that was just the thundering bass, plus the clarity of the octave string, it just sounded great.
And while we're at it, I remembered that I recorded something a while ago with the 8-string - on this track I'm using it to play the melody - the bass synth is my Moog Little Phatty, drums by Greg DeGuglielmo - this one was recorded in Lodi a couple of years ago, it's a Japanese song:
