If we can cordinate getting together, I can bring it next trip to Erie. Not sure when that will be, though. Strung with Chromes flatwounds.

I've read some about the varying construction of the 4004Ciis. My understanding is the one pictured above with the nice maple top has a layer of walnut sandwiched between two pieces of maple. Are they still made like this or do the newer ones have the walnut wings like the original Cis? I have a BBR on order and would like to know what it will be. Not that it really matters, of course
What are the residing opinions about the different sounds from the different body and neck types? (Yes, I know that's a very broad question.)

The current models have the Maple/Walnut/Maple sandwich, but alas, no Quilt Maple to satisfy Jared's libido!

The 4004Cii in Jeff Scott's shot is the prototype that resides in the RIC museum/showroom, and was used onstage at the 75th events. It has the quilted top, but the back (IIRC) is structured like the early Ciis with walnut body (and head) wings, maple neck-through. Note the maple fretboard which was not on the production Ciis. Note also the Ci pickup positions. This also had a semigloss sheen. It is likely unique.

Ahhhh, quilted maple like that one...... And it looks awesome with the maple neck. Would be worth a premium, eh Jared?!

I just got a new 4004cii yesterday. It is different from a 4003. I think it'll take a bit of time to get to know this bass. I'm still tempted to crank the treble and make it a 4003. The pickups are dead silent quiet and it has great sustain and low end growl. The neck is not as fast as my 4003 but it feels good. Very well built as always. I play fingerstyle and sometimes it can be too bassy for my preference but I'm sure I will find better EQ with more playing time. All in all its very nice and I'm glad to add it to the collection. Mine is translucent blue.
