Too true Jeff. I kind of wish they were really unpopular. Image

Thanks Wints for taking the time for a great response post. Much appreciated. I'm a bit behind on my forum reading....AND to everyone else for the input.

Some really good stuff on this thread. ONE of these days, I'll be lucky enough to play an "oldie" for myself. I've got to see what all the raves are about!

My 68 neck is just wonderful too. So thin it scares me!

It would seem the older basses do have generally that overall neck profile that seems more natural to play. You just put your hands on and they seem right.

I was comparing my new 73 last night with the 67. The fretboard on the 73 seems flatter and therefore wider. I measured them both for width and there was no real difference, (@1/16" at the most) even though it looks and feels wider.

The 67 has less wood behind the board and this makes up part of the different "feel" as well. Of course, the 73 neck is pretty thin to start with, but after playing the 67, feels so much wider...

This Feb 73 has the best "feel" out of my 70's basses. My April 73 FL is larger, as is the other Feb 73 and both do not fit as easily. The Dec 72 bass again never feels like a perfect fit.

Here's a 68 neck profile.

And a 64..

That's a pretty thin one too...

Tony, hopefully, you can make it over here to the West coast of Florida at some time, and I'd be more than happy to show you an "oldie"...

Failing that, and with some advanced preparation I could get over to you...

Jaymi, I e-mailed you recently about the current situation regarding "that certain bass"; I guess you didn't get my e-mail.

I've just checked and my old e-mail address is still showing in my profile, but I don't seem to be able to change it in edit profile. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Just change the last part to .com instead of .co.uk and you should be fine.

Wints,

Sorry for my delay in response, it's been a CRAZY week. Happy New Year by the way!

Thanks for the pictures & the offer! That 64 looks SCARY thin, wow, that is amazing. It's great to know that there are SO many cool RICs locally!

Thanks also for the offer of a personal visit. We have to try to have a small Florida confluence. I kicked it around with Jdog and a few other forum members in the past but it never seems to go past just the mentioning of it, but we have to try to put something together.
