It's been there for many months now: I downloaded of couple pictures of it in August 2007.

Bob from the Bass Palace was at the Orlando show a couple of weeks ago but he didn't have this bass with him.

That thing is hideous!

The seller says, "I challenge you to find another!!!"

I challenge him to find a platinum-plated dog turd, too. Rarity and intrinsic value are often mutually exclusive.

I'm right there with you Paul. That is ugly, IMO!

Though I must say the Avocadoglo yellow center thing isn't to my taste either, and not on a faker anyway. But boy, what I'd do for a deluxe "V64-67" 4001(3) in the same type of finish as the Al Molinaro 360 OS or the 360-330 twins. If only I could find enough money in the world for both the "donor" bass and, far more germanely, to make it worthwhile to Paul W. to put up with the gag reflex during the refin!

I like the Apple Green twins you refer to, Paul.

There's a lot of bile between those and that, er, atrocity of a bass. Green/yellow, though, looks like a banana that you'd eat to induce vomiting and digestive discomfort.

Well - I quite like it - but I'm weird, and I do like a copy that tries to be a bit different, and not just be a straight-up clone. One day I'll pluck up the courage to show you mine...

Anyway, the seller says "I challenge you to find another" - unfortunately I didn't save the pics, but a bass identical to this came up on Ebay Germany about a year ago - this one branded as Aria Pro II, which tells us this bass was built by Matsumoku in the mid 70s. Matsumoku also built the Univox copies mentioned earlier - at the time, these were far & away the most accurate on the market.

The info about the "exploding" Grovers is interesting, as I had no idea that they were made in Asia. That makes it fairly probable that the Grover copies on these basses originated from the same place - the factory made some unbranded ones for the home market.

While we're on the subject of Grovers, these are the two types I have seen.
Am I correct in assuming that the one on the right is the stronger utilizing the "spin swaging"
and the one on the left is from the ****** era?

They both have USA on them.

Curious about the Grovers.

The ones on the right will hang in there. The ones on the left will un-assemble themselves sooner or later.

Thanks Paul. Will the ones on the left hold up if they are punched or re-swaged?
Also I'm curious about the vintage on either set. Any ideas Paul?

I'm not an expert on the vintage angle, though maybe others can chime in on this one.

I wouldn;t bother trying to re-swage without special jigs and machinery, but a good staking with a nailset will do wonders.
