13lbs! My 4080 weighs 14lbs.

My white 2030 from '86 weighs 10.6 lbs, same as my '76 3001. My jetglo 2030 from '89 weighs a mere 9.8 lbs.

I thought I'd bring back this thread to comment on the 2030 tone with both pickups selected. I acquired one recently to make it 3 Ric basses and to me the bass sounds best with either the neck *or* bridge pickup selected, but not both. It seems to lose it's bite with both. To those who also own or have owned them, is this also your experience? I've always liked to mix the sound using both pickups on the 4001/3's that I have, and it would be nice to do it on this one. Still each pickup sounds great on its own. I have a feeling I have the single coils from the sound, but would need to check the SN to make sure.

It is certainly a different animal than the newer 4003's are. I need get out my others for a comparison (4001S and 4003).

I can see why they'd be good 5 string conversions as well, as the neck seems wide enough. There's a ton of room in between strings by the time you get over the pickups.

I find most basses with 2 pickups sound better with assymetrical volume settings ...

I just picked up a 2030 Glen Fry a few weeks ago. Great sounding, great playing, cool looking and unique Rick bass. The electronics are set up just like a Laredo/Cheyenne/Cheyenne II with the 2 knobs and micro switch. I like the sound either on the bridge pup or both, but don't like the sound out of the neck pup solo'd. No loss of "bite" here.

I think I have noticed what you're talking about on some of my other Ricks though, but they aren't this model.

With just the neck pickup I get bit deeper, richer, almost hollow-body sound, but it still has pretty good bite. When the toggle is set for both It gets somewhat brighter, but rather than just blending in some bridge pickup, it seems to cut the deep bass a bit. Just the bridge pickup alone is pretty bright and doesn't fit particularly well into the style I play, but I'm old-school. I also moved the bridge pickup back when I built the new body in case I ever wanted to stereo-wire it like my old Frankenstein Les Paul bass. In general though, it has a nice variety of available tones and sounds too good to mess with the circuit board or pickups.
