It'll work in a 4004 Charly.

Having never played a fretless Warwick, I can't make any comment. I've *heard* one played, and it sounded absolutely wonderful (it was in a performance of Godspell here at school last year). This is more than I can say for all the fretted Warwicks that I've played, which honestly sounded like buttocks, to be nice. No matter what amp I used or how I EQ'ed it, it the Thumb and the Corvette that I played were just so anemic and lifeless.

I should try playing the fretless ones and see . . . that might make all the difference in the world.

A 4004 Cii with that same wood grain top as the Warwick above would be awesome.

listen to the 2005 Cream union dvd ... Jack Bruce gets a really nice sound from his fretless Warwick bass ... and you can get a similar sound from the 4004 ... my 4004ci 4-2-5 can get a nice smooth warwick tone ...

Warwicks do sound great but I have yet to play one where I felt comfortable with the neck. To me, they are too thick front to back and not wide enough. If I could afford one, I'd get a Stryker.

Every Warwick that I have played excels at the smooth sound but flunks at the aggressive sound ...

Just like everything else, you've got to use the correct amp/speakers/eq combination. I've had a few Warwicks, and they've varied in sound immensely depending on what they've been played through; they have however usually needed a very different set up to my Rics. I recently tried a Thumb 5 through an Ashdown Superly and Accugroove cab, and once you found the correct eq it really came to life; one of the best sounds I've ever heard.

Interesting comment considering that a great many hip hop/funk/grunge/modern rock/nu-metal bands bassist's play Warwicks.

the warwicks don't give me the single coil attack sound that a Ric has ... but the Ric can do the mellow smooth sound ...

I'm very fond of my Streamer Chrome Tone.
It has a very middy sound and loads of boll**ks and guts.
The neck does feel a little thick and very woody, but I got used to it very quickly. We are out twice a week normally and I use the bass at most of our shows.

I am quite prone to playing my new 60th anniversary USA P Bass at the moment.
