And by the way, I live in Southern Ontario where we have frequent temp/humidity changes. The wood front of my Ovation hasn't held up great-there are a couple of cracks along the front, not enough to form a gap but noticeable cracks. My regular luthier says that he sees the same thing in all the Ovations he deals with here-the wood moves but the fibreglass back doesn't. Again though, the appeal to these lie not in their acoustic value but when they're plugged in IMHO...

Is it fretted or fretless?

If the electronics includes capacitors and the capacitors are electrolytic types rather than mica types then most likely they've dried up and aren't capacitating (capacitating?) any more which would affect the tone noticeably.

I'd guess that they aren't electrolytics, but any cap or other discrete component could go bad, as well as oxidation causing shorts or fatigue causing opens in the circuit.

A strange possibility is that a cap started working (like having a suck knob.)

Nope...haven't seen the Vox mentioned yet, after scanning. It's really an iconic guitar I think. I took mine in to show to a bunch of high schoolers and they loved it. They couldn't believe the sound on it either. I would definitely say that this one deserves at least an honorable mention.

I propose that the VOX go onto the second string, but it needs a bump to get it there. That bump comes from the unique engineering of the Guitar Organ.

VOX Teardrop Guitar Organ, take your place.

The English Beat came to town awhile back and that Teardrop looked and sounded pretty darn cool. Downright iconic.

Another looker is the Vox Jaguar. I had one of these keyboards with the reverse black and white keys for a summer in the late 70's.

VOX Continentals (wooden key, Brit or Italian manufacture) have gone out of sight recently in price. But Jaguars are available reasonably still. I'd say this time next year, an average Jaguar will be hitting $800-$1000. VOX keyboards do have the Brit Invasion sound and look, to be sure, but they have little else to offer.
