" I'm happy with the bass and the price I paid for it, there aren't a lot of FL's around, especially 72's. "

That sentence sounds sweet to my ears, Bob!Image

With a big item such as a bass, I just observe the "tide" of biddings and place my maximum bid at the last moment. My reasoning is if anyone's willing to pay more than my maximum bid at the final moment, then let him/her have it.

For winning my '72 fretless, I placed a $1250 bid at the last minute and won the auction at $1173. It was only $860 or so before I jumped in. The "cresting waves" hit during the last 60 seconds! Thank God I was surfing on top of them.

Except the CI still has a reserve and BIN at 1200 pounds.

In the meantime, my CII is expected to arrive in a few days... ;)

Hey Jeff, when you say you'll be rec'g your Cii in a few days - what exactly does that mean? Have you received a confirmation from your dealer that its coming?

Please let me know.

thanks,

Andy

Sorry Andy, didn't mean to get your hopes up. I ended up buying the one in the auction that started this thread... for more than it's probably worth, but not for the final bid price mind you.

I like the features I'm getting, which I can't get new anymore.

Well, she arrived today, and all I can say is wow! The body is a lot thinner than a 4003, which was a bit of a surprise, but she balances and plays well, and looks stunning. Unfortunately, it may be a while before I can plug her in. I've already written one new piece on her.

In the other thread, people were asking about how to mix the pickups, and I think a mod may be in order to change the tone control into a blend knob instead, perhaps with switched pots to split the pickups as well. I'll have to see how she sounds as is before fiddling with her though.

I sure hope you are able to get your bass soon, Andy, as you are in for a treat.

I like the vol vol tone idea, seems like the obvious choice, but I dont want to permanantly modify my bass. I wish there was a way around that.

I'm not sure Scott, but I think he just took out the toggle switch and put the volume control where the switch had been, which would be a reversable mod.

I talked with Jeff in an earlier post, and I believe he said he had to enlarge the switch hole to accomodate the new vol control. Is that correct Jeff.?

I've been wanting to make some changes to my 4004C-I since I got it in '99 but haven't because any mods I can think of would require a little bit of woodworking which I can't bring myself to do. I was thinking of replacing the existing pots with stacked sets so I could have a volume and tone control for each pickup. Along with that mod I was thinking of re-wiring the pickup selector as a phase or coil split switch. None of the stacked pots I looked at would work because the body is so thin. Anyway both my 4004s remain original.

Im with you Robert, I dont want to do anything to destroy the originality of my bass, even though I think 2 vols and a tone or stacked sets are a far superior arrangement.

Good Luck with her Jeff!

Scott I'm with - no reversible mods. And I too think that the toggle hole would need to be widened to support a volume pot.

One day I'll be able to say WOW!

Cheers

yes you need to slightly enlarge the hole for the toggle switch when converting it a vol vol tone setup ... if you want to reverse it use a small metal washer ... most people will never notice ...
