You see it John: "The FG one's Nike-like swoosh top point is not as pointed as on the MG one." is another way of saying: "the area of wood between the A tuning post and the end of the headstock is more chubby or...'bulbous' on the FG V63 than it is on the MG V63!"

Funny Gene. I missed your post earlier today!

Well you misunderstood my swoosh reference but your translation made it clear now.

"the area of wood between the A tuning post and the end of the headstock is more chubby or...'bulbous'"

Bulbous = short and fat. Ha!

Now, if I remember what I've tried to learn so far here, the bulbous style headstock (and my 2004 4003) are like they used to be a long time ago? My headstock is like a big paddle.

It's funny, I like both for different reasons - Non-bulbous because the trc reaching the top just looks fancier to me, and bulbous because of the accentuated curve on top.

My waist/stomach is 6 inches less bulbous than in October! {:^)

What a coincidence. Mine is 6" more. Image

OK ... now I see ...

I noticed a while ago my 2 4004 headstocks were a little longer than my 3 4003 headstocks ... I guess that is what you are talking about ...

Yep. That's it! The 4004 never went bulbous, the 4003 and 4001V63 and 4001CS did.

I like all the headstocks from 1997 to present ... the pre 1997 looked deformed ...

This is another reason why I'd love to slap a pickguard on a mapleglo 4004 . . . they have the awesome non-bulbous headstock that reminds me of the 60s Rics, and with walnut wings too. I may have to save up and buy a 4004L at some point . . . though that point will be when I have cash to spare. Damn, I need a summer job that pays more than $8 an hour.

One good thing about the long non-bulbous 4004 headstocks is the extra length allows you to put in a fifth tuner with good spacing, if you're into that sort of thing(low frequencies rock).

That's funny, Jeff. To each his own. I'm glad somebody prefers the bulbous headstock.

I dunno Mark...to me that extra tuner on your bass looks like my forehead would look if I drilled a hole and put another eye up there.

(...ducks to avoid thrown objects!)

A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I know what you mean Jeff, but it has grown on me since I've been looking at mine everyday for almost a year now, besides, after I saw an eight string headstock, I didn't think it looked any funnier than those.
