Someday I'll BE dust! :D

The main thing I like to collect is Yes concert ticket stubs from the shows I attend.

I have a good paying job, but I am not well off financially by any measure.

So let me tell you all a little story:

After buying my first bass, a forgettable Korean Washburn, I had a chance to buy the last brand new 4001CS in the entire Guitar Center empire and did make a deposit to have it shipped to my local store. When it arrived, I was unable to complete the purchase and did not even get the pleasure of seeing it before if was sold to someone else. Instead of a brand new CS, I ended up with a very played out flat fretted mid 80s 4003 MID BT.

I promised myself back then that someday I would have the CS that my lowly position in life cheated me out off.

Fast forward to year 2002, and my opportunity arrives. Mike Parks has a real nice late model CS on his site, and at the same time, he also has a perfect V63 MG available. Problem for me was that I still wasn't making top dollar in my field, two kids, etc...

I put down my money for the V63, of course. My wonderful wife, after listening to me grouse on about the Squire, MADE me ask Mike to switch my deposit over to the CS! Happiness at last! We struggled for a few months to make it happen, but the CS I always wanted was mine!

Just a little story to demonstrate that sometimes perceived value and market price can very happily co-exist.

You never know why someone is willing to pay a certain price for anything. The only thing you CAN do is bemoan the market escalation that we are seeing.

If you know me, you know what's next:

I close my eyes
Only for a moment, then the moment's gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind, ohh

Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

"Someday I'll dust...."

Today (Tuesday) I cleaned the bathroom, washed the floor and kitchen floor, vacumned the house, but didn't get to the dusting.

I DID get to play my bass before all those antics! Then after the cleaning (it'd been 3 weeks - long story), I got to go to work till midnight. I need to retire.....

There WILL be some blues at the confl in AUG! I am trying to get my bass lines on line so folks can add to it. We will be writing a boogie together and hope to have it fleshed out on both cd and something we can pull off live.
I have my first line (albeit a little sloppy) in Pro Tools. I am now trying to figure out how to get it out and make it an mp3 for online. I just switched from pc to Mac so the tools are somewhat different.

I wouldn't not say that we have gone nuts. The e-genie has, however, been out of the bottle for some time. With a couple of keystrokes seller and buyers alike, novice or seasoned, can find out what is fair and what is rare. It may be time to change the wish list. Rickenbacker fair trade anyone?
