. . . identical messages sent from 1000 different email addresses here today using an email script I wrote.

Doesn't that make you, uh, a spammer?

Nope, not at all, John Image

In fact, this is the exact opposite of spamming, and is consequently perfectly acceptable and ethical. Nor, in this case, could there be fraud or any other act either intended or construed in any way by sending 1000 solicited emails to one soliciting email recipient.

This effort on my part was a legitimate many-to-one where the recipient has invited(solicited) the email.

By contrast, spamming is one-to-many where the recipient has not invited(solicited) the email.

These emails were solicited by the site owner, from as many email correspondents as chose to write, and there was no stated limit of one submission per household, etc. They all came personally from me. I just happen to personally own 1000 email addresses. This is not spam.

Spamming is the opposite. It is one-to-many. In spamming, one email addressor sends thousands of emails to thousands of different email addresses, none of whom have put up a site and invited folks like the spammer to send them email.

What can I say?

I just got a PERSONAL response from the man himself!

NO way was this an automated response!

I posted a link to this forum and my old "Ode to Chris Squire" and he responded......

You know what, after almost 30 years of being a fan, contact has been made.

I'm going out and buying a lottery ticket, today is my LUCKY DAY!

The luxury of having infinite email accounts from which to send has enabled me to do a test.

There are 87, count them, 87 different and unique auto-responses that are produced by this email response bot, in response to a test body of identical messages sent from 1000 different email addresses here today using an email script I wrote.

You missed the point, Elys, defending your action.

I knew it was an auto-response when I got it. I'm just glad I got more info back on when this dvd/cd will be available. I got the same email that Tammy and Dane posted, with my name, of course.

Well wonder of wonders, I think that Chris Squire IS actually replying to at least some of us. Only after the second email from my main email, <[email protected]>, I replied and actually asked specifically if this was a staffer or if it was really Chris Squire. Well, Himself replied that it very definitely WAS him, that he had no staff, and yes he was cutting and pasting a standard reply but that when someone wrote him back and asked a specific question, he replied personally to that specific.

He asked me to please post a message from him, and I will also send him some direct links to some threads here.

That explains why the role accounts got 87 different responses. In addition to the canned message he was replying with, he was modifying the text himself slightly, and that produced a different "counted" response to the script.

I can tell you that I was flabbergasted, having never heard of a huge major star in the record business taking the time and effort to actually reply to us!

So, either I was well taken-in, or it really is Chris, and at this point I am inclined to believe it really is Chris! I will start a new thread and post a message he asked me to post to everyone here in a few minutes.

Here's hoping Chris is as sincere as I would hope he would be! Image Does that make sense?

I know that with all the years of having to 'deal' with his fans and management/security, one would expect that he would isolate himself from the world to a certain extent, but from my experience when I met him when I was 18, he really was very ingratiating, friendly, sincere, etc. and I always want to see Chris in that light.
