A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
While it reduces output, I can see the intuitive design sense in the .0047 cap. The neck pickup produces the lows and the bridge pickup produces the highs; simple enough. I still prefer the fuller sound of the bypass and letting the pickups produce the full harmonics of the pickup position relative to the string vibration.
