Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
We now have the full width inlays.
We got the 60s shape headstock about 97.
We got the 60s shape body wings about 97.
We got walnut headwings about 2006.
With the vintage tone circuit you get the capacitor 2006.
We can get to toaster neck pickup from Rickenbacker. We can get the the 60s shape pickguard and the finger rest from Tony at pickguardian.
Now if Ric would make a bass with checkered binding then it another step closer to a v68 bass.
Then the only things missing are the horseshoe pickup and the tailpiece with the slot. for me I don't really want the last 2.
And the bass has modern truss rods and modern straploks.
Good job to the guys at Rickenbacker.
Oh ya I can't forget the slimmer neck profile that some of the Rics have.

Now let's just see what the new COY will be next year and I think I'll be in for another 4003 (even though I don't need one).

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
It's tempting to get a new 4003 with all of the current features but with some of these recent/not so recent changes I have to think that checkerboard binding will at least be an option at some point in the future so I'll hold my breath and wait. The only thing better to me, which I won't hold my breath for BTW, would be a 4004 Laredo II/5 with deluxe inlays, check binding and three p/u's.
The full width inlays look great and 'hats off" to RIC for the move.

These new inlays are great, much improved, fab, mint, lush.
I'll happily take a 360 and a 4003!!! - any ideas when they might filter through to the UK?

Yeah, I was wondering that too...godber wrote:These new inlays are great, much improved, fab, mint, lush.

Well, dig me up and dust me off. The last new Rickenbacker bass I ordered was a lefty 4001 CS, in 1991.
Maybe I should think about ordering a new 4003. Better yet, just make some lefties, and let them trickle out into the market.
I am a fan of all the recent changes---the wings, inlays, neck shape, push-pull tone pot, among others......great job RIC.

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
I'm with Brian on the C/B, not enough features there to make me jump yet, but I sure am taking notice. I already have three ricks with full inlays so thats not a hook for me right now. I predict that we won't see C/B until the C64 run is finished, then a limited run of V68 type basses will probably start with the tail piece, pick guard/toaster and horse shoe coming over from that line. The C64 tail piece is already a dead ringer, I'm using one on my Jan 73 4001 restoration for that fresh minty look(thanks Dane). Everything else is already in place and they could ask 3K....and get it easy.

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
Was checkered binding standard at one point? The earliest catgalogue I had listed it as an option, but not as standard. I don't think we'll be seeing it in any case, as the CB is an extra layer of binding, and so an extra step, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh my - time to order a new 4003
The question is MG or FG - never owned an FG
When the checker board comes back and I don't think we'll see that, if we see that, until the back log is decrease I'll order a JG.
Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
Since I have a 4003 BBR on order I've seen quite a few nice upgrades. I wonder if this one will make it to my bass....

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
Love the walnut wings (my other favourite feature), love the full widths....checkered binding is great too, but although I love it as it's not really visible from any distance it's not the absolute be-all and end-all for me. Have to say, with a new pickguard and a 1/2" toaster all my reasons for not owning a 4003 seem to have gone out of the window. Somewhere down the line (unless I get Paul or Dale to do another conversion first as I do love sparklies) I see a Jetglo 4003, and maybe a Mapleglo too....this really is fantastic news. Can't wait to see them filtering through to the UK.
