It was. But a handbuilt guitar with that much work in it should not be undervalued like that, especially knowing the connection with Aussie music history.
(Ignoring the fact that it shouldn't have been built and sold in the first place)...

That was cheap either way.
As far as i know he never ever put the Rickenbacker name on any of his guitars.
I've also seen one of his Gretsch Duo Jet copies too,it didn't say Gretsch on it either.
Its a shame if he's not making them now,my rellies live just up the road from his shop.
Should've bought one last year, D'oh!

Wow, that Crock looks awesome. Why doesn't Rick make one of those? I like that size better than the real fullbodies. It's more comparable to a Gretsch (which is good). Stick a bigsby on it and I'd take it over a Gretsch anyday.

Well i wouldn't take one over a Gretsch ,i loves me Gretsches.
I want a 360F because of its Gretschyness,but it should still sound like a Rick.
And well,its just a class instrument

John, Rickenbacker's trade dress protection has little to do with the name (although it's protected as a registered trademark). It rather extends to certain visual features: The truss rod cover shape, for one, headstock shape, pickguard shape, and other visual features; general body shapes, especially the trademark Rick double cutaway, but also extending to the somewhat generic shape of the "F" bodies (ref: Lanham Act, passed in mid-1947--a decade before these shapes were conceived--and updated as recently as September, 2005).
I fail to understand why someone would expend this sort of effort to copy something as generic as a Gretsch Duo-Jet...there must be a story in this somewhere.

It was Piers that I got my reserected Rm1999 from. I think he was building the "Crotches" and the "Crockenbackers" before it was designated a massive legal sin to build Rickenbacker copies (It was still a minor sin though)
Piers knows his stuff and is a real artist, He is probably the most competent Rickenbacker repair guy in Australia!

He referred me to Frank Grubisa for the refin on my 481.
Frank did a superb job and I will have some pics as soon as I have put it all back together.

a real F is a sewer cover, size-wise.
..........Sewer Covers, Toilet Seats.........now this is affection to the brand!
Interesting to learn of the Crockenbacker's too. Seem's that it's all over now though.
BTW thanks for the response wrt "explosive" binding Paul, informative and amazing! So, why not use ABS yourself, or do you on more recent instruments?
