What's wrong with the one you have?

Note the "1" on the end.
There's nothing wrong with the '69 4001S conversion, but I do love the sparklies and checker binding!
It would have to be something very special though.
Well, that would surely be the bass built one before the 4000/1 you already have then...
Graham has a 3 p/up 4005, and it looks great IMO. I should have binned that one back in the day, but it was JG....

Hang on to that baby one more year, Wints! I "may" be at a point where I could get it without selling anything else!

You crack me up, Wints. I love JG!

Not MG, not FG...JG!!
Some people like JG!

ANY of these 4 (one is a John Birch from 1976) could go if I stopped playing them for long enough.

While it's true that a few vintage instruments are incredibly great, I honestly don't think they're worth the premium that they command - certainly not something like a Fender model of which hundreds of thousands have been made more recently, and are still being made... you could most likely find a more modern one which will do exactly the same job, or so close that it doesn't really matter, for a fraction of the price. I love a good vintage guitar or bass as much as anyone, and I can see the magic in them (when it's there! not all of them have it by a long way...), but I wouldn't pay the price they fetch now to own one - much less part with a treasured and much more unique instrument to get there.

These days my skills at building basses is getting to the point that I really don't need my Rics .. they are nice to have but with the money I can get for them I am tempted to sell them all ...

I've actually been tempted lately to put the Laredo and LK on the block. I haven't been in a band for a while and really don't see it working out anytime soon so I wonder what the point is in keeping them. I always said I'd never part with it (the LK) but I also think it's wrong for it to just be sitting in the case all of the time. I barely even play anymore. I go through phases where I noodle around a bit but I could do that on anything. Keeping the LK now is mostly just because I waited so long for it, I'm not hurting for cash (but could always pay some bills with the proceeds) and since I really didn't pay that much for it I don't feel like it's a luxury to keep it. Plus it's a pretty cool piece of art.

What would it take for me to sell 'em?
Coming to that spiritual place where I discover that this stuff is actually pulling
me away from god-consciousness as well as killing the kundalini, And that the state
of bliss that I'm capable of obtaining does not include a room full of guitars.
I'm almost there.
Check the for sale section soon......!

Just wanted to add that I'm not putting any one down in any way.
My comment was in no way intended as an insult.
I'm just talking about where I am.....

I have "A" Ric
and the answer is nothing. I told my Kids I would put a clause in my will so they cannot sell it.
A '59 fender doesnt do a damn thing for me either.
I had a 68 P a 74 P and a 75 Jazz in the late 70's through the late 80's Not one of them ever felt right.
I got my Ric basically because of one I saw in 1979 that a friend of my brothers had.It was a white 77 4001 and it was being played through a traynor amp. I never heard anything like it before. I never saw a Ric in any store and frankly never looked to hard for one either. In December of 2000 I was in a music store with a friend and there was a used one on the wall. I played it for 5 minutes, walked up to the counter and ordered a brand new one.....
It is the best feeling best sounding bass I have ever played.
