I have been a huge Boston fan from decades ago. I loved the Third Stage tour and must have seen you several times on that tour. Great job!

I also think it is wonderful that you participated in Brad Delp's memorial jam. That's great. I'd love to hear about the old days and why you left, but I understand if you can't. It appears to be a common trait amongs most of Tom's old associates (Barry, Fran S., Sib, Curly, Jim, Fran C., etc.) which may say more about Tom than anything else.

Anyway, to get back to your original question, you are probably looking at about $7,500 for a reasonably good 4005 bass. If you go for a really nice one, then you're looking between $8,000 to $10,000. You can find some that are either really beat up or need work on them for between $3,000 and $5,000, but you probably won't want to record with them. I wouldn't trust one that is listed for less than $3,000 unless it's a special occasion, such as a spiteful ex-wife selling off her husband's gear for misunderstood low prices.

Why not? I did lots of recording with mine in the early '80s and it sounds fantastic.

I seen Boston in 87or88 cant remember exact year,but what I do remember,was it was one of the best live performances i had ever seen .They didnt even play( Smoke in )that night. Good luck on Your 4005 quest ......fenbass

David, welcome to the Forum. Someone with your experiences should surely be a welcome addition here, and good luck on your 4005 quest.
Here is one that might be a bit hard to find.

4005 models are cool, too bad the V series won't reissue it

Sorry for the confusion Jeff. I intended to say what John got out of it. I am sure your 4005 is wonderful and sounds great.

However, if you find a beat up 4005 for just $3,000 and it is your intention to be recording with it, I am going to guess that you might want to find a better one, even it you pay more, if it is your intent to be recording with it as one that is that beat up, it probably isn't going to satisfy you.
