Sorry I'm late with these - finally filched the Camera from my very lovely wife. Please excuse the poor photography - not my long suit at all...

Here's a poor beaten Mar '74 4000. It was FG, but had been sanded rather healthily and was bare naked when I picked it up. I had a clearcoat put on it. Mods are:

Brass nut (previous owner);
Huge Schalleresque no-name tuners (previous owner);
Holes in the TRC where previous owner tried to put a Fender string tree;
Horrible Black 'guard (the original was trashed - this is all I could get made back in '80)
Hipshot tailpiece (the original is donated to a restoration project).

I've finally replaced a broken brass strap-post (previous owner) with a vintage one thanks to the genorousity of Mr H. Bishop. I played it live for the first time in around 20 years last Sunday at Church, and wondered why I'ver ever played anything else...

Questions, questions. I bought it the 1974 4000 MG several years ago on ebay from a forumite. I recently tracked him down and posed these questions to him. His response was that he believed he got the bass from one Darren T, who he believed obtained it from one Dave P, so it has evidently been passed around. That doesn't really explain the binding or dark fretboard, but it does add to the "provenance" factor . . .

I had saved these pics in my misc "Rick pics" folder and thought to include them. I no longer have any idea from whence they came. Not mine, but fun to look at -- Yes!

Hello everybody,

I am new here and figured this to be the best place for my first post. After many years of Jonesing for my very own Rickenbacker bass, I finally found something very close to my ideal Rick bass guitar. Below are two views of my "new" 4000S (Is that right?) in, um, I suppose it is maroon red but I'll leave it to y'all to inform me as to the proper color designation:





The unbound body/neck with the dot markers is my preference. I continue to search for a natural (Mapleglo?) 4000S, hopefully with the neck pickup routing so I can create my own McCartney style Rick (The one pictured above does not have the routing.), or perhaps a proper 4001S. Meanwhile, this baby is a blast!

Pictures of this one in action are forthcoming...

As the 4000 never came in a Deluxe version you can drop the S from the designation, 4000 it is. The color is the very desirable Burgundy, lucky you!
