I just use a Rat R2DU (two Rats in one rack mountable unit). I use one for my basic distortion and the other for a solo boost. However, when I run two amps I'll sometimes keep one dry and have an old Digitech PDS1002 digital delay in front of the other with a short delay.
Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).
