Those new ones are amazing. Especially that brand new one with the flame! WOW!
The last 2 examples posted here are exactly the kind of FG I don't like!

Ricks finishes are difficult to photograph in general, and fireglo is most definitely the hardest to get right. Monitor quality also enters into the equation. Those two examples do look "amateurish", but so do many pics of FG instruments. Fireglo has varied quite a bit over the years, for better or for worse, but truth be told I've very rarely seen a FG instrument
in person that I didn't like. I love the new fireglo and AFG, but I also love the finishes on my two (very different) FG ricks - one from 1990 (a nice, deep red) and the other from 2001, the "Harrisonglo" period (which the ignorant sometimes refer to in a derogatory way as "clownglo") when the c63 project was in its infancy. Personally, I'm glad that there is a great variability in FG - not only at the time it's applied but also in the way the finish ages. Keeps things from being boring, if nothing else

This pic is from an ebay ad, and though this 4003 doesn't have that great flame in the 4003 pic posted earlier, it's very nice even for my eyes, and I've never cared for anything red...cars, guitars, drums, motorsickles, anything. Burgundy? Great! Red? no thanks...Weird, I know.

That's okay, I feel the same way about green, primarily on instruments.

I prefer AFG on a guitar without binding, such as a 330, since to my eye the binding gets too yellow with AFG. But that's just what I like at the moment. I can be very fickle.

Here's a new 660-12 AFG with a bit o'flame; not a bad looking guitar:

- 2008 660-12 AFG
Here's a new FG:

- 2008 4003 FG
As for my favorite between the two, I prefer FG. I think the ambered binding that's part of the AFG look (some would say it's an unfortunate by-product) can detract from the FG finish, which looks great with white binding.

This new 4003 FG, shown above, looks pinky to me. In many of the pictures I've seen, new FG still has plenty of pink. I like pinky FG, in most lighting configurations. I don't like the edges to be so dark that it looks brown. I know I don't like that.

I guess I have been lucky with my fireglo Ricks. My 370/12RM is a 1989, and my 360/12 is a 1992, and the color of both is nearly identical without a pink center. Sorry, the only pic of them together also includes my 660's.
