Short scale maybe, but 32" medium scale would definitely get my attention. Long enough to still have good bottom end resonance but short enough to be very comfortable to play. Make it "Plain Jane" ala the "s" models, no body/neck binding and dot markers. I might even break the bank and take two, one in MG and one in FG.

Stanley Clark's Alembics are all 32" scale with light strings, and we all know how good he sounds. If you really want a 32" scale Rick bass, I can get it done for you.

I will keep your offer in mind. Per your response in another thread, I take it you mean to modify an existing Rick to medium scale, not build one from the ground up? Has this been tried already, and if so are there any photos of the results? I would be very interested in seeing how that looks.

This has not been done....yet. I have custom double neck RIC project that I've had a long scale 3001 neck modified with a short scale 24 fret fretboard for. My luthier can pretty much get anything done. Since RIC will probably never again do a short scale bass, this is the best way...short of making an instrument from scratch and violating RIC's trademark laws.

If you ever get around to doing a medium scale, post pic's so we can see how the body/headstock look in relation to the shorter neck.
In the meantime, I will continue saving for the time when either a C64 turns up or a replacement model is introduced.

IIRC, the Stanley Clarke Alembics are 30.75" scale.

Well, here's what I think.
August 2009 - RIC discontinues the 4004 series.
September 2009 - RIC has to sell all the stock for pennies on the dollar to dealers who are then stuck with them
January 2010 - Everybody now wants to pay $5000 plus for them on eBay despite never having heard or seen one.
Sound familiar ?

As long as they make a FIreglo one I'm good whenever the new model arrives, I would like to see sparklies and Chequered binding again though !
