must admit I haven't been by for a while due to legendary phobia of my computer (scary things best left to the young, while oldies like me then have a clear run at the Rickenbacker shops), but my Rickenbacker bass "stash" is I'm sure nearer 30 than 40!!!! The rest of the Rickenbacker tally is 6 and 12 strings which OBVIOUSLY get played less than the PROPER Rickenbackers with sensibly thick strings, and only 4 of them at that (or, sometimes 8 of them).
Mine seem in the main to divide into groups of my four fave colours of azure/maple/jet/fire- glos, and include 4005 and 4001 and 4003 basses, 4001v63s and a few S models, checkerbounds and then a few oddities and unusual colours!!! missing a V63 in azureglo but I won't lose any sleep about it! Not surprisingly the 4005 quartet mean a lot and are an outright guilty pleasure, er, without in fact any guilt whatsoever! Perhaps slightly surprisingly my favourites to play are the late 70's 4001 basses, these I know are perhaps a bit "standard" (!!!) compared to early 70's or S models, etc, but they really draw me and my mind judges ALL basses, Rickenbacker or otherwise, by the models I've played for 29 years now! The one worn/slung (sorry!)/battered/played/fooled about with by far the most is my 2nd ever Azureglo, from 76 but mine since 1982, signed on the back for me by Bruce Foxton and Glen Matlock, who both basically got me into music in the first place, so its also an inspiration to look at, let alone stuff through my two Trace Elliot V8s and commence armageddon. But then, the rest are Rickenbackers too so they're ALL nice!!!!!!!!

Simon!!! So great to "hear" from you again. You mention a V63 in Azureglo. There could be one out there somewhere, but it would have to be a refin as Azureglo went away before the advent of the V63 model. We've seen the odd Midnight Blue, Sea Green, and Turquoise V63s, and refinished ones in various colors, but not an Azureglo that I know of at this time. Thanks for dropping by!

Hello Paul! Yes still here, still keeping the faith - I'm even typing this with an 81 jetglo 4001 round my neck! I think you're on the money re the Azureglo v63, although i thought I saw one advertised somewhere on ebay (?) once.. a year, maybe 3 ago...?? I was doubtful, mainly because although I don't have the knowledge of the range I know you are accumulating for the book, the fact it was the ONLY one i'd even heard of in Azureglo meant I was sure rarity would have pushed it beyond my funds at the time if it was the real deal (luckily I did most of my collecting when prices were only skyhigh, not out of the solarsystem...)
In fact if stock levels ever improve over here , I'd love to try some bang up to date, brand new 4003's, to try and pick myself a nice one from, as walnut wings and the tone switching option sound tempting..... not sampled any of the new breed yet... but hey I've got a birthday this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although my avatar says "2", I only own one, a 1972/73 Mapleglo 4001 (the one in the back, which is completely FUBAR (refinish, various aftermarket parts,...). The black one in front is a borrowed 4003 from 2002 (who returned to his owner the day I got my 4001). The one in the middle is my "workhorse", a F*nd*r HW1 Jazz-Bass which is also FUBAR (gold finish, CS60 pickups, chrome covers,...)

Simon! Just the man I wanted to ask this question to:

There's a section on Björn's Rickbeat site that shows your collection, and among the (fabulous) collection is a '67 4005 MG owned by John Entwistle...do you still own this bass? How did you get it?

Better throw mine in the mix as well -

'08 4003 MB
'08 4004L Natural
'03 4003 FG (may be selling, due to the fact it sounds nowhere near my MB....!)

It's nice to see other peoples collections. Some of those posts have totally blown me away! :D :D :D

A sizeable portion of Enty's collection was auctioned off a few years ago, that bass included. I believe some of his other basses went to forumites too.

That one looks great with the vintage trim Marc. How is she holding up?

Yeah, my friend did the binding and the frets..He did a great job. :D At this point it's the only bass I use, and I've actually been playing lately. Needs a slight neck adjustment, but other than that, I haven't had to touch it since it came back from Arnquist.
