When I changed the hardware of my 330 JG from chrome to gold I changed the jackplate as well. I fixed the original one inside the cavity with gaffa tape and there it shall stay ....

I've quoted this as I just peeked inside my 480... it says in black handwriting Bob and in red handwriting 129... the jackplate says OB796.

Any thoughts on that???

There is likely no connection whatsoever to the markings in the control cavity of any Rick and the serial number on its jackplate.

There may be a few exceptions to this -- some 2008 4004Ciis come to mind -- but generally speaking, especially for anything made prior to 2000, there will be no connection.

I'm still curious though... what did Bob do to this 480... is 129 a kind of line number for 480's? Such things interest me

I believe it was once explained that the number would mean this instrument was #129 in that particular production run batch.

My new 3260/12C63 has the serial number written inside the control cavity.

My 4004 has somebody else's serial number written inside the control cavity...

My '07 360 has the same number on the inside as on the jackplate.

I was thinking... if one'd swap the jackplate on a '83 480 with an earlier year there'd be no way to tell it's not correct?
