Hey Wints, I'll trade you a nice vintage hi-gain for that "get those out of the way" horseshoe pickup!

How long did he use that bass for? I saw a clip of him playing in '72/'73 by which time he played a triangular fingerboard markered 4001.

Would it be impolite or inappropriate to ask how you came into owning that bass?

Thanks,
Chris
I'll PM you Chris...

Sorry Jeff, they have to stay on this one! :D

'03 I think

My '07 C64 is identical to this. Even down to the space in the HS. I've noticed that some of the '09's I've seen on Ebay have a wider space in the HS, similar to the V63. Plus they are angled up instead of flat. More like the original ones were I suppose.

These basses have some of the nicest fretboard woods I've ever seen.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread. I just really like these models.

It's an old thread but I pulled this one out a little while ago. I have no idea how many of these are around. One of the last produced I think. 2009 C64S in Matte Amber Fireglo. The two JG's from Paul's book are downstairs, no photo's though.

Interesting to go back to the beginning of this thread. These "Model of the week" threads were the genesis of the chapters in the book. If you dig deep enough, you'll find threads on all of the models (up to that point), and thread on different finishes, too! For those who are new here, discussions on this forum formed the basis of the book, and RRF and its helpful members are fully credited in the acknowledgements. :D

It seems on Facebook recently that a bunch of people have bought one of these and posted pictures. Maybe it's the official bass of the pandemic? They're great basses. I sure wish Rickenbacker would offer a bass with vintage features, maybe bring back the V63.

There are so many V's and C's out there for folks to acquire and enjoy. I think the new stuff they are doing most recently is far more interesting. I'm enjoying the heck out of my 4003 CMB aka CB SPC MB (what a mouthful!)

Shamelessly, I give you exhibit A:
