Welcome, Dave. Nice to hear the man behind those wonderful YOU TUBEs. And thanks for visiting my YTUBE on 12k toasters.

By the way, since you and I have the same toasters, what exactly do you detect to be the differences in sound and response between the on-board comp and the Jbox.
You would be e good judge since you have them both. Thanks!

I like the Jangle Box...especially the JB2 over the onboard compression on the 370/12RM. The Janglebox has a dial where you can dial in or out as much compression as needed. Early Byrds stuff doesn't sound that compressed, so I choose to dial it "out" unless it's a lead part (Eight Miles High-5D, etc). The JB2 allows you to kick it up a notch like for a lead part as well. Great for live performances.

The onboard RM compressor just seems to "squash" the sound all of the time which takes away from the dynamics. And it's noisy with static if you're not playing. It's so noisy that it's a distraction.

Hi, Dave,

Since your YOUTUBES were done with the on board RM comp and sound crisp and
chimey, does the JB2 (on board comp off) sound just the same if you dial it
in right?

I know you have said that the RM comp is too "squashed" and "noisey", but
in the YOUTUBES it sounded terrific. Would you be kind enough to elaborate
more on how "close"
(or different) the new JB@ is. Frankly I want my 1994 MG12 with 12Ks to
sound just like yours on YT. Is this possible if I get a JB2?

Thanks, Dave. You are the only guy I have found that has the 12k toasters
on a 12, so your ears are my guide on this one.

Happy Byrdsing,

Donnell

The JB2 will make your MG12 with VP sound just like the RM model I'm playing on YouTube. The main trick to getting the clean sound is to plug in direct to your recording device. I don't use an amp.

The JB2 has a compression dial where you can adjust it to maximum which will give you the "squash" RM sound. Or you can back it off all the way to nothing and everything in between. Plus it has tone controls on it where you can dial in more treble/bass beyond what your Rick pickups can produce. The RM can't do that. And lastly it has a "boost" switch which is great to kick on if you are doing a live performance and need a lead to stand out. The RM can't do that either.

So in short you won't be disappointed.....I promise.

Dave,

Thanks so much. I really appreciate your "extra" answer. Your playing is superb and your voice blends nicely with the "other" Byrds. And thanks for taking the guesswork out of
exactly what the JB2 does with 12k toasters.

Maybe I should have YOU sign my pickguard?

Just kidding! Have a great Fall, Dave.
