Summer Tour
Re: Summer Tour
Agreed Tom! It just upset me that so many people were chanting and wanting them to still perform. Seriously would you play your guitar in a driving rain, with lightening ... it only made sense. The stage crew did their very best to keep everything dry. I hope everything made it through without any damage.
Re: Summer Tour
I wouldn't call what we experienced as just "RAIN", more like a TYPHOON!
Lightning strikes only hundreds of feet away, driving wind and rain to the point it stung the skin. That DC show SHOULD have been cancelled and I'm glad the guys didn't risk it. That storm was INSANE and ANYONE who posted negative comments about YES not taking the stage, well, calling them an A@@ is an insult to donkeys. Speaking of the folks chanting for YES to come out, MOST of those people were DRUNK out of their minds...One of the "ladies" in the crowd was SO DRUNK, I REALLY thought she was going to BARF on my back. Moments later, she fell flat on her face on the ground.
The Jackson show, while understandable, was a shame. No sooner did they call it, not one drop developed. Not even a 20 minute delay, nothing...just a wash out. There WAS a LOT of lightning, but it was off in the distance. I know YES had NO SAY over this, it was the VENUE that made the call. Chris WAS visible upset that they called the show.
Words can't express how REAL and SINCERE he is. He has a certain SOMETHING about him that makes you just want to have a beer or hang out and watch a game with him. Scotty and Xilan have the VERY SAME PULL. Scotty is a SUPER VIBRANT person and meeting her and the baby was the highlight of the trip. She is VERY friendly, outgoing & FUNNY! She is a very bright woman and just meeting her makes you feel great. I've always been worried about meeting Chris for fear he might not be what my mind envisioned him to be, but after meeting him, he BLEW AWAY any and all expectations.
I find it so strange, after ALL THESE years of following YES, I can't EVER recall a press report, or interview, forums, ANYTHING that mentions just how enjoyable and comfortable it is to visit with Chris. In the past, I've always been so ****** when some careless person says anything off color about the man, but now them's fighting words.
I guess it's easy to just sling mud at the band for "not shaking hands" or not giving an autograph, SOMETHING someone wanted them to do and they couldn't, whatever....but these are DAMN GOOD PEOPLE. Given the same situations, I wonder how we would respond. I KNOW I could never muster THAT kind of professionalism.
I have to say, I never thought how many great frineds I'd make by just being on a forum. THIS was my only forum experience, I didn't know what to expect. I have made firendships that are just as strong (if not stronger) than family bonds.
My life has been changed is such an amazing way by meeting so many of you either in person, on Skype, the phone, Emails, etc.....here's hoping I get to meet many more forumites!

It’s always kinda scary meeting your heroes – never know until you do if it is image or real. Some of the little stuff you hear about the Squires seem to reinforce that they are good people. I’m glad Chris and Scotty are real folks.
Several years ago I did work for a communications system in the lightening belt – research seemed to say that lightening does pretty much what it wants to do. Path of least resistance usually but not always. ‘Blue sky’ hits are not unheard of. You just don’t mess with it.
The folks chanting… probably a just bunch of drunken lemmings. Unfortunate but these days it seems like there is a lot less civility than there used to be.

Yea, what Tom said... Here's a few stills from a video I shot out my back window in 1998. It had only started raining a minute before...ram wrote:...research seemed to say that lightening does pretty much what it wants to do. Wow, very reminiscence of my own near miss. My friend, his dad and I watching this storm start to roll in (still miles away- no rain). All in one instance the hair on my neck starts to raise, there is a flash and I think the loudest boom I ever heard. A tree about 25 – 30 feet away got nailed. You could feel the concussion. Wasn’t our day to go I guess?
