BOO-YAY is right! I've been quietly/patiently on the hunt for a Dargie 5-er so a new release should make it a tad easier to find one. I'll have to see how the new paint looks before deciding.

I was this close to buying a MM Sterling Dargie Delight from the CME a couple years ago. I was gonna walk out with it and a MG 4005, but then I thought I should wait and see how well my first instrument transaction with them went -- The 75th Anny DCM 4003 that I paid full retail price for, upfront -- Never did pickup the Dargie...Or the 4005...Or the DCM for that matter!

I'm sure they're great basses, but I seriously doubt I could warm up to the styling of the Bongo's.

In addition to my JG 4003, I've a white '62 Jazz RI, sunburst '62 Precision RI, and sunburst Jaguar Baritone Special which is like a Jaguar Bass VI.

The Bari looks like a Jag, with a 27" scale, and is tuned B-B, a fourth below standard tuning. The Bass VI had a 30" scale and was tuned E-E an octave below standard tuning. However, a Bari can be dropped to E-E and uses the same strings as the Bass VI anyway.

You've got more current info than I do, Matthew! I can't keep track of them Fender permutations and variations.

Anyway, the E-E octave-down guitar is one cool sounding beast...Carol Kaye often used one to double her bass lines, to add some percussive attack.

Didn't some Johnny Cash songs feature a Fender Bass VI, too? "Cry Cry Cry", "I Walk the Line", "Big River", too name a few...

I'm pretty sure that those came out well before the Bass VI was released.

What was the baritone guitar available when those songs were recorded/released, then?

I have a 64 Jazz, 74 P, and a 1980 Stingray Fretless.

The Rics don't get out much these days...
