Oh, there is the SPC/RCA or RCA/SPC. Whatever. The RCA is for the Radio Corporation of America (just like you would think).

There were only a few of these made.

I think that old catalog sheet might be a black sheep...I've seen so many refs to AZ over the years, and only this one sheet referring to AG and ATG.
I think the "conventional wisdom" may have shifted away from the designations on that catalog sheet. So, are we going to bring the old ones back by putting them on this semi-official RRF list?

Paul, I hear what you're saying - I am only attempting to help put togehter a list that other newbies, like myself, can use to navigate the waters here at RRF. I think the items on the list should reflect what is commonly used here and is not meant to reflect, necessarily, the OFFICIAL RIC terms, be they from new or old catalogs. However, I am a stickler for adhering to standards when those are in place. So, you'll notice I changed Fireglo to "Fire-glo", etc. because that's what's in the RIC catalog. I only put the AG in as the preferred term (and listed AZ as the unpreferred term) because the user who submitted that initially indicated that was the case.
I'll do whatever you Veterans and Admins tell me to do with it...ultimately I'd like to submit it to you all for a sticky thread somewhere as a dictionary of acronyms. I'm not even suggesting that it really become even that- I'm just trying to be helpful and I'll take whatever direction from the crew as you all feel I can get. I'll submit it as just a suggested list, it's up to Peter et al if it becomes any kind of official or semi-official RRF document.

Robert, although I can read all of this without a grin or even a smile, it would be inaccurate to say that I take this as deadly serious. Language, as we've forever been told, is a living and changing thing, and anything we try to do to codify this is only going to be as good as its most inaccurate or unpopular definition.
So, yeah, we agree. And the list is 95% there, in any event, and is needed. I can think of abut a dozen more "sticky topics" that should be posted oncve and for all, mostly involving debugging some myths and stating technical topics once and for all.

I wonder if it would be possible to add some sort of document repository to the forum for just such things. Ideally, it would contain the document files as opposed to threads, in which it's easy to lose track of the current state of the information. The neck girth document is just one such document, but it's not directly accessible from the forum.
There would have to be some sort of control over these document files, perhaps only editable by moderators, to keep anyone from accidentally (or worse) changing them or deleting them. Hmm, I suppose I should ask this in someplace like the Technical Support section
Edit: OK, I started a thread there

A big part of the fun is the journey that leads you to know this stuff, rather than just "welcome, here's a legend."

Once this list is ready let me see it in its final form and we will look for a place to make it a sticky that Peter or I can update if necessary. Jason's point is well taken.......it is the journey through all things Rickenbacker rather than the quick fix that makes the experience much more pleasurable.

I agree, the journey is great, but it's also nice to be able to reference these sorts of things without having to search the forum to find where they are. I don't know how many times I've gone to the "Measure Your Girth" thread just to find the URL for the XL file with the data. It would sure be nice if one could just go to a files section and find such things.

Looks to me like you've got everything covered very well, Robert.
I think we should have the glossary printed on T-shirts. Sort of an always handy reference guide, if you don't change clothes often or mind reading things upside down.

In general terms and for the edification of all those who may think that changes can be or should be made as rapidly as someone dreams them up............that is not the case.
We look at all suggestions in context of how the board is laid out and managed. Our approach is cautious and deliberate. We look at all things in context and are careful not to set some precedent that is unmanageable. The Admin group of the RRF prefer in most cases, that suggestions for change be PM'd to us. That is and always has been the unwritten and most acceptable established protocol.
In this case help was sought to obtain the various meanings of acronyms from the membership and this thread has found some support at my level. I will run it up the flag and we will take it from there.
