Well I've already put flyers up at a ton of Pawn Shops, what else can I do?pflash4001 wrote:DON'T trust the cops to check all the pawn shops...and DON'T trust the shops to report it either...I've heard of chain shops getting stuff like that and shipping it to a store in another town before it ever hitting the floor just so they won't take a loss...YOU need to do it yourself!

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Sorry to hear that news Jake. I had a home break-in with a house I was renting back in the mid-90's. My '82 Jetglo 4001S could have been taken, but it was in the lowest level in the bathroom. I also had a 2nd bass down there, as well as my computer, stereo system, etc. They only hit the main room and bedrooms for electronics to sell. I got a rude awakening about the need for renter's insurance and secure doors to the house.
I've also heard that it is best to troll the local pawn shops just to be sure. Hopefully it doesn't stay with one of the ********. I'll be trying to check for you as well. There are a lot of eyes on this forum.

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
What I meant is don't just assume that they'll call you just beacause you left a flier. You need to stay on their back. Keep calling a couple of times a day, drop in after work, be a pain in their butt. Hopefully there's someone in the shop you can trust. I know around here, sometimes the managers are a bit of a pain, but some of the floor employees get to know you over time and will point specific things out, or keep their eye open for you, but you still need to backstop them. All I'm saying is you need to keep going yourself.
Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
If I was going to pawn shops and store...I wouldn't say"Hey my bass got stolen, did you happen to buy it?"
I'd ask if they got in any new basses, and maybe add that I collect Rickenbackers. You want to keep their guard down.

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
just a thought about pawn shops, maybe you can convince them to buy it for the lowest they can and you'll pay that... sure there's people who'll try to take your money, but not everyone's like that. Besides, getting your Rick back is worth it. May be you can try and find somebody you can trust inside the shop. I hope you find it... that's the best color for me I am very sorry to hear this!

I don't recall exactly what you had, but this one is described as being like Cliff Burton's.

Jake, I wanted to throw in my support and say OMGWTF?
Seriously, though. We need to put the word out on things like this.
Since seeing a few of these, it's become a habit of mine to go into pawn shops and see if there's any Rics and then cross check them against the stolen ones in the Register. So definitely we need to have people list them in the Register as being stolen.
I did come across a Ric in a pawn shop the other day. They had it mismarked as a 4001C64. Odd how it had binding, normal TRC and sharkfin inlays.
Not sure where they came up with it being a C64 (even a C63 would be wrong).
Anyway, I still checked it out on the stolen list when I got back to my puter.
Good luck in your quest to get your baby back.

Parked my truck and locked it all up and jsut went up there for about 20 minutes to have a beer and to celebrate from having a great gig. Get a phone call from a buddy saying these guys that left the party were ****** about my friends talking to there girls and that they took my bass and smashed my ampeg. Tomorrow I'm going to all the pawn shops in the area with a flyer of the description, and pictures of it. Hopefully these idiots will try and Pawn it and get caught. I can see them doing 3 things. 1. Go and Pawn It 2. Smash it just like the Ampeg or 3. Play it themselves. Ill try all these ideas and get the bass back if I can. Ill update you all. Thanks for everything and the support guys. Really appreciate it!
We''ll surly with due dilligence you have enough "leads" to track down the suspected culprits. As others have mentioned-File the police report ASAP if you have not done soalready, update the bass as stolen here on the registration page, and then start making some calls someone at the gig must have known them....Take down their description what they were wearing, how many etc etc etc.....And dont lose hope!

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Well it's been a week now and no luck. Just called all the pawnshops in the area asking if they have gotten any Rickenbacker guitar's, but no go. I'm guessing the people that took it are gonna wait a month or maybe a few to do something because they probably know I'm hot to find it and still looking for it. I check ebay and craigslist everyday so I still have faith it may turn up somewhere. I've ene searched and called places asking if they have gotten any Red Guitar's or Basses just to see if they tried to be sneaky. Should I call the police back adn see if they got any news? I gave them the serial number and description of it last week and they were going to search. Man I miss my Ric :/
