I'd go with the term PROverts. None of this preverted stuff. Only professional verts need apply, in my opinion.

I've been using the term "provert" for years to signify the difference between pervert, prevert and provert.

As I've gotten older I find myself more and more in the pro-vert wing of the debate.

UPdate - used this guitar Saturday night, sitting in with Joe Genuardi's band. It rocked. I ran it through my Fender Cyber Twin series 1. I had a totally robotic rig!!! (except the 456/12 I used on my own set)

I brought one home today to try out and I think its a keeper. I have a green SG, which is essentially an SG Standard with the robot technology on top of it. My local favorite store was blowing them out at $999, which I think is a great deal - its almost $500 less than a Standard. Even if the tuning system goes belly up you've still got a good guitar. Here's the green one with all of its finery:

I wish I could say its true but I have more Gibsons at home than any other brand. I'm even down to my last Rickenbacker and have been pondering selling it. Blasphemy, I know! Anyways, I've had my eye on the Robot for a long time but was nervous about the technology and the price was even scarier. At $999 its pretty easy to pull the trigger, although those stock Gibson pickups only sound good with a fair bit of gain...luckily I like a fair bit of gain! I think you and I are on parallel courses though JDog - I picked up 2 PRS guitars this year too.

Seriously though, I like the idea of robotic tuning, but whoever thought out the implimentation by putting the tuning heads atop the head is just thinking wrong. Seems to mee motors and the wires that have to run to power them belong in the body. I think it would be a much more elegant solution to have the motors be at the other end of the string.

...and string the guitar backward, with the ball ends in the headstock? Where you gonna put six honkin' winders in the small area left over after routing for controls, tailpiece, and pickups? How the heck would you string this thing?

As I say to my students, "show me an accurate sketch..."

This creates a half-dozen problems while solving only one.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of the whole overly-complicated "solution" to a problem that doesn't really exist, no matter where the strings wind up.

Opinions are like you know whats....

This guitar has been a great asset to me already. I have perfect relative pitch (not the same as perfect pitch) and it is difficult for me to tune a guitar by ear to the standard western scale, since it is naturally slightly out of tune in places. I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum here, so I won't go into the science behind it.

One reason I've loved Rick 12's is because I can get them in tune and they stay that way. This robot gives me a reliable 6 string to rock with, so make your jokes... laugh at me if you will, but this has really helped me, and I doubt I'm the only one on the planet in this situation. Sure it could be improved, but just about everything can be improved, can't it? How many 60's Ricks exploded over the years? And this robot technology is brand spankin' new! Give'm a few years and let's see what happens. I agree that the system is a little too delicate... glad I got a warranty!!!

Yeah, think of it this way - how many of us have a digital or strobe tuner we paid a few hundred dollars for? I was reading elsewhere on the forum about the Peterson Strobotuner and how great it is. Well now you can have a digital tuner built into your guitar, and it turns the tuners for you. So I strum the strings and they are in tune all by themselves - that's cool.
