I've heard great things about markbass, but I haven't had a chance to play through one. I will say that GK gets my 100% thumbs up.
And yes indeed, why would a bass player expect an amp to sound good at 10? To me, bass distortion is best supplied through a pedal - I want my amp to run clean and loud on 10% and just go up from there to about 50%. Above that, I need a new rig. Not a fan of the Ampeg stuff I've used; it gets louder, but there's a range in the sweet zone (louder than simple rehearsal and up to 100-person gig room volume) where the amp gains volume but doesn't add any presence. The net effect is a loss of distinction in the bass. But, turn it up just a little more and it blows the doors off.
I'm not sure what I'm hearing, but I don't care for it.

Can we have everything louder than everything else?

Just my humble opinion.
Hear hear worst Bass amp I ever owned as well
Re: I Have a New Bass! I Have an Amp Question!
So I picked up a Bassman Ten. It sounds great with the bass. It sounds even better with a 330! Wow.
Maybe we are a quiet band, or at least we were quite tonight at our first practice with my new setup, but if I went higher than 5 on the master volume I was told to turn down. We use electric drums for practice to keep the noise down and hear what is going on, so I think that this is a reasonable volume amp for my needs. Playing out may be a different story I know, but we'll hopefully soon test that out.
Why should a bass player want to be at 10? It may be that I'm not a real bass player. I've played bass on and off over the years, but I approach it as a rhythm guitar. I always try to sneak in some cool little runs, but I do a lot of chords too. Tubes sound good with that style of playing to my ears.

My last two bands featured a gorilla on drums.
