Golfers for instance have their clubs and irons made to their exact personal specs - weight and length - and bicycle racers get their bodies measured carefully out and have their bicycle frames manufactured to match their bodies. But still of course within the original design asnd within the rules. I have been a racebiker myself and had my Principia race bike designed and set up to my exact specs - which means alternative tube length and angles - and the manufacturer often keeps these records on their computers and NC equipment. Custom buil sports equipment is simply a fact.

Here's my opinion: using the guard just because you like the look is a little silly. The guitar is a tool and should not get in the way of a player's technique. HOWEVER, if you like doing it that way it's fine with me. If it doesn't get in your way then carry on.

So now I have another question. Which people are the better human beings: people who use the guard or those who don't?

Will the guard users be raptured tomorrow, or the other guys?

David: Sometimes the most interesting questions are those that we consider simple.

As with most things crafted by humankind there is a balance between the aesthetic and the functional and it is sometimes difficult to separate the more important of the two.

With regard to your new question, ascertaining who are the better people at this point is likely mute.

and back to the simple question..

When I got my 620/6.. I found the bridge guard seemed to keep my right hand about 1 foot above the strings.. COULD not palm mute without moving my whole right hand forward.. < which didn't work > ..

and with the bridge guard on.. couldn't regulate how much I palm muted.. was either not muted.. or just muffled.

so bam: took the pick guard off.. and everything felt more like I was used to ..

then here come the irrational part.. the Guitar looked wrong.. < to me > ... and we all know how compulsive many many are here about everything RIC... paint.. finishes. .how many frets.. binding.. tuners..

so I put it back on.. may not make any sense.. but : it looks "right" with it on..

and now I'm finding.. I'm learning how to correctly vary palm muting.. with the bridge guard on..

so it is doable... < at least for me . >

.. now: whether someone would CHOOSE to have to learn to adjust to the thing.. to defer to the LOOKS .. is the subjective part.

OK.. .. RICS owners can be a tad quirky.. ( in a good way ! )

Pick guard or bridge guard... there's a huge difference
