Cheez guys... if all you really wanted was the Byrds sound, suppressing/compressing some 50 years of guitar history, you could finaigle it by using a cheapie Deam Boca 12-string plugged into a compressor and a cheap amp.
But to nail it, you would have to take lessons from Dr. R. McGuinn, who can show you how he's borrowed banjo rolling and mandolin chording as applied to a 12-string guitar.
It's still the singer, not the song or the glorified PA system.
I DO own an example of the JB 1, and it does OK, but at $350 used, a Boss GT-Pro will do better and a lot more.
And I really do love it when my Ric 12 SINNGGGGS rather than comes up hoarse...

I have to disagree on a couple of your points.buchrob wrote:Cheez guys... if all you really wanted was the Byrds sound, suppressing/compressing some 50 years of guitar history, you could finaigle it by using a cheapie Deam Boca 12-string plugged into a compressor and a cheap amp.

Firstly, the Boss GT Pro, like many multi effects units, is horrible.
For live use the sound is digital and nasty, the over drives are a joke and the modulator is completely unusable.
It is OK in the studio though, but then again, so is a cup of coffee and a chocolate biscuit.
I know a lot of people like the Boss effect pedals, but I've yet to experience one that is anything more than average.
I certainly wouldn't have one anywhere near my live pedal board.
If you really do believe that the sound is down to the player and not his equipment, and that you can get a better sound with a "Boca 12-string plugged into a compressor and a cheap amp", why would you then go and spend hundreds of $'s on Rickenbacker guitars, boss multi FX and a janglebox?
I've tried dozens of amp/effect combinations over the years, the player and guitar have remained the same, but I can assure that the tones produced have been very different.
Re: Janglebox!!!
For the record, my Janglebox JB2 runs circles around the compressor on my Boss GT-3 multi-effects unit. But I totally disagree with Rob that the Boss units sound terrible in general. The factory presets are nothing to write home about, but anyone with enough patience can tweak the patches to get some really killer guitar tones. I've had just the opposite experience from Rob: My GT-3 sounds great through my amp but really sucks for direct recording (some salespeople have suggested to me that the newer versions of the pedal are better in this regard). Multi-effects units are a great value and are much more convenient than lugging around a dozen pedals and daisy chaining them together. I have only three pedals in my rig: my Boss GT-3, a Dunlop CryBaby 535Q, and my Janglebox JB2.
Re: Janglebox!!!
I just picked up my new Janglebox 2 and I'm very pleased with it. It's everything that's been said about it. I'm impressed with how versatile it is. The controls really work; that is to say there's an enormous range of sounds available to me besides the boost switch which puts it over the top. All my guitars like it but the Ricks love it.
Big thanks to Steve for speedy delivery and that extra something, too

Kira,
That's great news that you're as happy with your JB2 as I am with mine! As you noted, the pedal is very versatile and easy to use, and I would add that its sound exceeded even my greatest expectations. I've been so enthralled with what it does to the tone of my 330/12 that I haven't gotten around to trying it with my Strat yet. I'll let you know what the results are like when I do.

Re: Janglebox!!!
I used the JB-1 at an outdoor gig last Saturday. It was just dial it up, plug in and play. No fuss, no muss. Got a lot of compiments on how I "nailed that Byrds sound," and "that Rick gives me goose bumps."
Thanks Steve.
Thanks Steve.

I just can't play my 12 string without my JB1-it even works great on my Gretsch 6075 12 string!
