Difficult to tell actually. I'm a high school teacher, so I _should_ probably go for something along the lines of "(young) adult".

Thanks. That is the sound I normally get...nice and growly!

Pretty much the sound I'm aiming for, too. I had no problem getting something similar (not THAT growly) from a Stingray with a Little Mark II head, but how do you get it from a Rick?

the part that is not in the hands comes a sansamp and a Digitech BP80..

ah, thanks. I always wanted to give the Sansamp a chance. Got a Big Muff Pi for heavy distortion, but I still need something for that little bit of growl.

Well, back to topic! I had actually been looking for a Rick and getting on my girlfriend's nerves about it for a few years when we watched the Scott Pilgrim movie. Still, I have to admit that the movie brought the issue back to my mind, although I had been planning to intensify the search as an exam gift to myself. Which worked out perfectly fine.

I think the OP is right...I did notice this the other day on a commercial and here's some of the poster art work from the movie for proof...

Excuse the necro-post, but it took me about 30 years from the moment I knew I wanted a Ric bass to the moment that I owned one (a few days ago). During those 30 years I owned a varied assortment of basses that ranged from pedestrian and cheap (an El Degas P-Bass copy) to odd and collectable (a Teisco Del Ray EB-220) to a self made Peavey Cirrus copy.

About 5 or so years ago, I decided that it was time to stop messing around with a variety of 6-string guitars, amps and modern digital effects that are "close but no cigar" and get what I wanted in the first place. Over those years I have bought and kept 3 fender AVRI's ('52 tele, '62 strat, '62 jag) a '60 Les Paul reissue, and a Ric MG 360. Now its time for the basses. I really only have 3 in my plans. The 4001, which I bought last week, a '62 Jazz reissue and a early '70s Les Paul Triumph, which will both come to me over the next year or so...

So, what amI saying... If you're young and you have a hankering for a Ricky, but don't have the cash, get a job, save up, buy what you wanted in the first place and hang on to it.

Tom, unless you need to have the Fender name on the headstock check out the offerings from G&L, specifically, the USA made JB or JB-2; I have the latter, before knowing about the former, which I would have bought. The build quality, feel, finish, tone, and especially, the feel of the neck is superb; I have had many a Fender over the decades, and I have no plans of getting another, the G&L is that good, and in the end, G&L is/was a real Fender (the man) product.

Unfortunately, If I had one of those I would be sorely tempted to break out the belt sander and knock off that dingleberry on the bottom of the headstock...

It's gotta play right, and sound right, but it also has to look right, and that lawsuit mitigating feature on the headstock is just wrong to my eyes.

The Beatles are the latest Rage with the kids too. I wonder how many of them think they are a new group?

I've heard that several times when someone came out with a ****** remake of an original classic song. I always laugh.
