The truss rod nuts sit so high that that they touch the underside of the plexi TRC, and have scraped off a bit of the back paint. A thicker spacer will move the nuts further back, and even higher up. And, when I had a closer look today, and tested it again, the holes in the spacer weren’t too close together after all.

I must have been tired. And I’ve already placed an order for a few of hundred kroners on some different flat steel bars.
My problem is that the steel spacer has sunk a little into the wood, more on one side than the other. I could fill up with epoxy to level the spacer, but the nuts will end up further back and higher up. I’m considering carving out the wood on the other side to level it. That way the nuts might end up a tiny bit lower, hopefully not touching the TRC. I have to look at it closer and do some thinking.

Glad that it worked out!
The neck on my v63 is a little bowed. I have fret buzz on the D and G strings above the 12th fret. I never have adjusted the neck before.
Is it wise to turn the rods 90 degrees, only once a day?
How long should I wait after I've turned one rod before I turn the second rod?

There's an easy fix for this, and I do this to every RIC bass I service. Chuck each of the nuts up in a drill and spin one end against a file till it looks like a bullet. This will keep them from coming in contact with the back of, or pushing up a TRC. It also makes it a bit easier to get a wrench over the end of the nut to adjust it.

This is funny to me, because I
just did it a couple weeks ago. My '92 V63 has no issues with rods or neck, but it's truss nuts were hitting the TRC and scratched the paint off from behind. I actually had my brother turn the nuts down on a lathe, but...same thing.

Long enough to down a couple gulps of liquid courage, say a prayer and proceed onward to the next measurement....

You should wait with the next turn on the same rod though. 1/4 turn a day when you are carefull I think I read somewhere (here).

Looks like you have the same issue with your truss nut(s) hitting the back of your TRC that Dane and I just discussed above, Philip.
Looks very similar to my V63's TRC:

Well...if you were super picky, you could exchange your TRC, or you could use some touch up paint on it. And then you could alter the nuts as described above so that it won't happen again.
Or you could just consider this "player's mojo" and wear it proudly!
