The various answers all depend on how the original question was interpreted. It could be interpreted as "So whats the must have rickenbacker [for you, personally]?" or "So whats the must have rickenbacker [generally speaking]?" I answered in the latter sense. Either way, it makes for an interesting thread.

A wonderful question. No matter how many Rickenbackers I have had the opportunity to experience over the years, I have come to learn that the "must have" is the one that I am playing. :) Each one calls to me for one reason or another.

The lure of history, tone, look and feel is to be found in all of them. Now how many can I afford? That is the question.

At the end of the day, I have the good fortune to have a 4003, a 350 and a 360/12. Each one played often with the scars to prove it. Life is short jangle on.

THE must-have Ric: I'm with Collin, a 300 something hollowbody.

4080 in Jetglo, 700C (had a factory one and let it go, still waiting for the replacement from PW), 381. I will be content when I have those three in my collection.

Is there really ONE must have Rickenbacker? At least one of each would be the ultimate "Must Have" in my opinion!

I'm up in the air between the Fireglo 330/12 and the Fireglo 360/12. Both of them are beautiful instruments with a sound that screams Rickenbacker!

Go for the brass ring and get the 360/12. You'll love all the possibilities with Rick-O-Sound capability. 8)

it took me 38 years too long to actually break down and do it, but my vote is still a Maple 370/12. Now that I have it, I find myself wishing I'd made the leap a couple of decades ago...... It's always been my favorite, in sound look AND feel, and when my wife offered to buy me a guitar as my retirement present, it was the first and only guitar that came to mind....
