I all depends on the construction of the particular set of strings there are rounds with higher tension than flats and visa versa.

In my experience, I've discovered that TI flats are very low tension and Roto flats are very high tension, which translates to the feel under-finger as well.

I just saw another thread discussing the Optima 4099s.
Ordered a couple of sets....

Messing about with some isolated tracks I found of "Helen Wheels"... put together everything but the bass track on my DAW, then went and recorded my LaBella loaded C64S to see how she sat in the mix.
I realize that McCartney probably used his Jazz Bass to record his line, but I think my 4001 does a pretty convincing job getting an appropriate tone!

Nice Job. I think your tone is almost identical to the original track. In fact, I've always thought that this song featured Paul's Rickenbacker. Helen Wheels was probably recorded at Abbey Road and not in Lagos as it doesn't appear on the UK BOTR album and was added to the US release to boost sales of the album. I dunno....just my theory.
