Horace Panter/Sir Horace Gentleman - his playing is always great but the Special's "Concrete Jungle" is a standout.

I could list more but my all time favourite top three are:
1. Chris Squire
2. Geddy Lee
3. Andy Fraser
All three played basslines that were so much more than "the standard thing" and always enhanced the music, but never overstepping the mark. That to me is the sign of genius.

A fine example of knowing when not to play.
His groove on their slower songs (You're Wondering Now, It's Up to You, Message to You Rudy) is stellar.

Two of my favourites have been Bill Black, Paul McCartney. The following touches on both.

Looks like it might have 4 strings, but I only see two tuning keys.

For the past few years, the bassist with a great Ric Tone for me are:
- Dave Meros of Spock's Beard (his early years up to album 'V')
- Chris Squire, of course !!!!
- Geddy Lee, also !!!
Other favourite bassists to me are:
- Pete Trewavas, Marillion and Transatlantic (also plays a Ric !!!!)
- Flea, RHCP
- Tony Levin

Probably because other than other bassists, few else pay much attention to bassists. So we raise bassist awareness and pat each other on the back every once in a while.

I believe I started one of those threads that I posted Joey. Guitar players usually have a fine appreciation of bassists................so long as they don't stand in the wrong place on the stage and hog the spotlight.

Not a RIC player (that I know of), but Mike Oldfield is actually quite a good bassist.
