Do you play differently on your Rickenbacker?

I have different guitars for different jobs and each one needs its own approach. My Les Paul is the easiest playing guitar I've ever had and I can either dig in or stay light. My Strat can take a lot of pressure but never quite allows too light a touch. As soon as I straightened the neck of my 330/12 as per prescription it went from being hard work to incredibly easy but then required a lot lighter pick attack as well as fretting touch. Optimum results for the Ric are definitely achieved this way for what I play on mine (should add the big servings of compression I put it through). So, yeah, my Ric gets played the way it wants.

A Rick can be set up any number of ways. Most 12-string players I've worked with, prefer the easy fret/light tough setup that you've given your 330/12, but there are many options with both sixes and twelves to match any playing style.

What my V63 offers me that my other basses do not offer is the power or presence if you will, of playing with a pick in the upper registers. I have always played with a pick and found most basses to be a little weak on the top end while getting a good tone. Not so this V63. As I have said before, this bass isn't like any other Ric bass I have played, but I love it. It offers me so many options. Mark

I have noticed that on my 360, it can be difficult to play leads on the upper frets. I really have to use the tips of my fretting fingers to get around up there. But then again, the guitar has small frets and I have large hands, so that is probably the reason. I have no problem playing anywhere else on the neck.

When I finally got a 330, I played it exclusively -- and it was like learning to play all over again!

I've always done originals, and I found myself re-thinking arrangements and leads and writing in a whole new way. Simple, single-note lead stuff that worked fine on a Strat or Les Paul just sounded off, with the RIc. I found myself become obsessed with double-stops and open strings and totally different chord shapes.

I play a variety of guitars now, but I credit the Ric with forcing me to find my own way to play. Invaluable lesson!

Pete Townshend said that a Ric somehow encourages you to play up and down the neck more. i also find that, partly because the 24 frets means my hand is naturally falling around the octave mark rather than the 7th fret. I play a lot of scales and weird stuff like whole tone scales which i don't tend to do on other guitars.

I also find that i'm quite scared of the top of the fretboard because it's narrow and i know i'll fluff notes

I think I play a little different on any guitar, not just Rics. I mean of course I'm going to play differently on a super strat with a Floyd Rose and hot humbuckers vs. a vintage Ric with an Accent and toasters. For me, the way a guitar feels greatly influences what and how I play. With that being said, I love to play my Rics....for some of the newer members, you can check out my YouTube channel to see that Rics can go beyond the sparkly clean "jangle zone"

I've got about 20 Guitars depending on whether I'm buying, selling or trading. They're all different.

I seem to adapt to every Guitar a little differently depending on the Neck, Frets, Strings, Controls, w/Pups or w/o & the size & feel of the Body. Does that make sense?

My 360 6 string is the easiest playing guitar I've ever played. The Action is the best, the Neck is smooth, Intonation perfect and when I hit a chord it Jangles & Chimes just right.

I have to make my fingers believe they are skinnier when I play my 360 12 string though! Nothing sounds cooler than a Ric 12 String thru a Vox Amp with Blues!

When I played a 360/12 almost "swooped" instead of strumed with my pick. It was a nice guitar.

Yes, yes I do ... because I am inspired to the stars by these beautiful pieces of Ric artisty. Am I any better? Not necessarily. However, it sure feels good.
