Don't worry. There are plenty of folks here who would be willing to take it off your hands.
Hide it at my place. My wife won't mind.

Hmmmm...I don't see any Cii features on this bass. By the way, does anyone know why RIC deleted the last fretboard dot on the 4004 basses. I know it was done this way in the 60's, but why now?

Maybe to give the 4004 a bit of the vintage look?

True, but the 4004 is not a vintage instrument, and it used to have them. It just looks like they left it off to me.

OK, I'm back from my "business trip" in one piece. First off, my wife saw my new bass and she likes it! She said the color is unique, sort of like the color of bile. Not sure it was a compliment but she did not hit me over the head with it so I'll take it as a compliment!! While I was away, she opened up my credit card statement and still did not kill me so I'm two for two!!

I updated my signature to reflect the new addition so I got that under control.

A new group foto will be taken tomorrow along with the wonderful refinish Paul W. did on Blackstar #17. :D :D

Richard at RIC (great guy) has a new Schaller M4 tunerr on it's way as well as a letter stating my Blackstar is #17. Thanks Paul. W for your assistance with the document!! :D

I played the heck out of the new addition before I left and I loved the big full sound out of it! Sounds even more amazing through my Orange tube amp!! The action was dead flat and I liked everything about the bass! I got home to find the neck has bowed a bit so I tuned her up and gave the rods a little turn. They seemed quite loose. Sighting down the neck it seemed a bit bowed. For Christmas I got the POTR neck guide "ruler' and I found the E string side of the neck was bowed about 1/8 of an inch. I little less on the G side.

Is the 4004 my new favorite bass? Too early to tell but it was instantly comfortable and I love the sound. It's my only 4004 so i can't say it's better or worse than a Laredo. I noticed the neck pup is right up against the neck, unlike the Laredo or the Cheyenne. I'd go as far as to say the sound is awesome!

Let's put it it this way, two months for now, I'll be joining in to play a few songs with a well known local club band that is playing a benefit our PBA is hosting to raise funds for a monument to house a 16 foot piece of World Trade Center steel we acquired. I was thinking what bass will I use? It was either going to be my Blackstar or my 73 4001. I'm thinking now it's going to be my 4004! Yeah, I like it that much.

That says a lot, right there. I think I may be done hunting Ricks but I know I'd love to land a 4002. That would be sweet!!

Sepp

The position of the pickups is a factor of when they were made. The original Cheyenne and Laredo had their pickups in the position your TVBile bass has. When they came up with the Cheyenne II in 1999, it and the Laredo had pickups positioned 1.25 inches closer to the bridge to take advantage of "nodes." That was fine, but if you ever had a problem with a truss rod, they would have to pop the fingerboard off to get at it as they no longer could get access in the neck-pickup cavity. In 2004, they figured it would be wiser to put the pickups back where they were. So the "lowered" Cheyenne IIs and Laredos would fall into the 1999-2004 time period.

Ah, thanks for the info Paul!! CJ, Oh no, please don't humor my "better half" by cloning a new color description based on her wise a$$ comment!!  I wonder where she gets her humor from??? :?: :?: :?: I happen to like everything about the color. :D
