I found the bass on eBay in 2006. Fortunately, I outbid vintage bass collector Vincent Gallo to win it. He must have been really upset about the defeat. After the auction, he spewed a stream of trash talk here on the RRF about me and the seller in Australia. Pitty his rant was deleted; I'm sure there was insight there that we could all have benefitted from. Or not. Enyhu, when all is said and done, at least this is a vintage '60s bass that will actually get played and see the public eye again.

Actors... Waddayawant... They need to be a bit more emotive than the norm to succeed!

So this is yet another 1964 RM1999 that left Australia for the US!!!

Time for me to reverse the trend and bring one back in!

Kevin - the "stagger factor" may be an accurate reflection of the degree of stagger in the RIC employee who made the pickup on any given morning.

You are aware that our distributor in Australia during that era was Rose Morris PTY, an Australian firm, right? So I'm not sure why there would be much surprise.

Off the top of my head I don't know the ratio of guitars to basses but I do know that hundreds of units were shipped, just from the thickness of the file, which I've recently seen.

to add to this, mr. hall...did rose morris control the sales of rose morris models to canada as well or would you ship direct across the border ? or would you just ship "S" models to canada by your company ??

Nope. I wasn't aware of that. Never heard of 'Rose Morris PTY' until just now. I just assumed that music stores in OZ ordered their handful from RM England.

My bass was traced back to Canada. I didn't know if that meant there were RM's shipped to Canada or someone brought it to Canada from England.

Canada is and was our home territory, so no, they didn't sell there. To be honest, I wasn't aware that they even had a presence there.

Indeed. I find that black enhances the bird's eye grain quite nicely.
